Why would anyone buy anything but VOB 100? The price difference is inconsequential and if you are mixing it the higher proof also becomes inconsequential.

We don't have VOB 100 in Atlanta....only VOB 90. I still have my bottle of the BIB from the Sampler last year so I haven't bought the 90 proof version, but that's one reason why it might be purchased. The cost goes up quite a bit if you're talking about buying VOB 90 locally vs. VOB BIB online + shipping. That raises the price per bottle, which takes the VOB BIB out of that "great value bourbon" range.

I think you can get both proofs in Chicago, but not everyone has a Binny's nearby!

The 100-proof VOB is great stuff. Nobody believes me when I tell them this. But that's fine. I put it up there with Weller Special Reserve as one of the best values in bourbon.

There are actually a few annoying but catchy hip hop songs to which one can sing "V.O.B.! B.I.B.!" instead of the actual song's lame chorus. I had one such tune unfortunately stuck in my head, but now it serves as my VOB BIB pouring chant. I just can't remember the particular song. And that's probably for the best.

But seriously: just say it to yourself right now: V-O-B! B-I-B! It just works, folks.

I like them both, but the BiB usually edges out the 90. I will say I have had some bottles of the BiB that I liked better than others, but that's the "single batch" nature of the BiB. The 90 is the only one available in Michigan and is still very hard to find. My hopes that it would be more widely distributed after Sazerac bought Barton have not been fulfilled.

When I drink the 90, it's usually in the summer when I tend to drink lower proof whiskeys and mix them more.

The 90 doesn't excite me. Prefer other bourbons at that price range.

VOB BiB! I love the stuff and highly recommend it to people.

If you're looking at something else in the range, the 6 year white label Heaven Hill BiB is a few bucks cheaper as well (not quite as good, but close IMHO).

I am obviously an uneducated bourbon drinker, because when it comes to sipping, I actually like the 90 over the BIB. Sure I could put 1 part water to 9 parts bourbon and get the same proof, but I find the 90 a bit deeper in flavor.

Sorry for raising the dead thread -- Figured I'd mention I plan to harass my local big chain liquor stores to order some VoB 100... I've heard too many good things about it, it's annoying that we can't get it here in AZ.

Anybody else have luck when asking a large liquor store to order bourbon brands/varieties they haven't stocked on their own?

Thankfully, KY is 40 minutes away!

We call those big bottles "Family Size".

I do the same BTW, on the VOB BIB. I just pour it into a regular 750ml, and refill as needed. Usually, doesn't take long to reach that point...
