killed off a half pint of ND OT, and decided to dump the rest of a bad pair of dusty pints, Ten High and JTS Brown 86.

Does the dusty JTS Brown have any butterscotch notes? I've had dusties from most distilleries, and they all have butterscotch notes, but current HH is so strong with the corn, wood, and mint that I'd be sort of surprised if they worked some butterscotch in.

ETL Julio's current selection... quite good as ETL's go and a very easy drinker

I emptied the last of my Woodford Maple finish into some Old Forester for a bottle for mixed drinks/ginger ale. I appreciate any distillery trying new things, but I am not a fan of this expression. Even after combining it with the OF, and even after adding some Mellow Corn to try and cool it down, that hot astringent note won't go away. If anything, it has gotten worse.

I wouldn't call it butterscotch, but it did have that sort of dusty bourbon richness to it. It just didn't hit the great spots like some do, and I kept staring at it, and the funk growing in the bottom, and said no more mediocre bourbon.

It was recognizably HH whiskey though, complete with mellow mint/menthol afterburner. All the dusty HH I've had is a bit more potent rye/menthol finish. EC12 pre-fire is pretty good, if unbalanced, starting with vanilla and caramel, and finishing with a kick in the pants, that all makes you want to keep drinking it.

Man, that is how I felt about my Old Forester 86 and Old Fitz Primes from the mid-'80s. Rare or not, one glass was all I needed to obtain my education, and they eventually sanitized the garbage disposal.

Cool! If I'm lucky enough to find them, I'll definitely scoop them up! Unbalanced or not, that sounds like a fun ride.

Goodbye to my one and only bottle of PVW20. One of the best bourbons I've ever had... which is why I drank it all! :drinking:

Cork & Bottle selection of 4R SB, Barrel #18. Very tasty, with more burnt caramel flavor than the standard SB offering. Heading back to Cincy in two weeks, plan to pick up a couple more bottles.

I have taken two bottles out this weekend. The first casualty was a Kentucky Vintage that hung on a little longer than expected by hiding behind other bottles. And then I finished my Willet 4 y.o. Barrel Proof Rye. I play MarioKart much better when I am loaded up on barrel proof rye.

Just finished my first pappy 15 (spring '11 release, 09 bottling date). Made it last for almost a year and enjoyed every sip as I don't really have friends who would appreciate such a fine pour. Thankfully, I have one more from this release in reserve for the future.

Willett 5yr rye tonight. Lots of barrel char in the last pour.

While nice, I think I prefer the 4yr version to this particular barrel.

Finished off my first ever PVW15 last night. Amazing from first sip to last. I got lucky to snag 2 at the same place during my first time Pappy hunting, but I may not get that lucky in the future.

Just waved goodbye to a dusty bottle of Old Taylor 80. I have a huge soft spot for this stuff, even at 80 proof (dusty OT 100 is an all-time favorite). It's got plenty of flavor and is so gentle. That was my last one, so I need to cue the A-Team music, suit up, and find some more OT dusties.

Were the 80 proofs offered at the same time as the 86s? I found some 86s a couple of weeks ago, but no 80s or 100s.

Said adios to a bottle of Devil's Cut. I know it has few fans around here, but for an easy sipping whiskey when my attention is more on the Stanley Cup finals than what is in my glass, it is more than up to the task.

Glad you enjoyed it. It really is a fabulous pour, just don't break the bank trying to score some more. There are many other fine alternatives.

The last pours from two bottles hit the bin this week. First to go was Four Roses OESO single barrel bottled for Clearview Spirits. It was aged for 10 year 10 months. Took a while for it to open up, but I don't think this recipe is one of my favorites. Not going to be replaced. The second bottle I have been savoring/nursing along ever so carefully. Abraham Bowman bourbon TPS barrel #5, 140 proof. For me, this bottling blows the doors off GTS. Sweet, rich, not over oaked, everything one wants in a great bourbon. This one will be missed. Thankfully I have a few more backups.
