What is a reasonable request for comped Bourbons in Vegas?

Hi Folks,

1st time poster here. I'm going to Vegas to gamble in a few weeks, and I have regularly received most mainstream beers as well as Crown & Coke comped when I hit the tables. Since I've become a bourbon enthusiast recently (I still have a number of the super premiums still yet to try), I was wondering what most of the casinos have available for comped bourbon on the rocks. I'm guessing they would have Beam white available, but what else? In other words, would I get weird looks if I asked for a Buffalo Trace on the rocks?

BTW, I've tried most of the low to mid-shelf products, and my two favorites are EC12 and ETL.

Definitely not. Maybe if you did it with a higher end van winkle or Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. But either way, if they're gonna judge you just b/c you use ice, f*%$ 'em.

The nicer the casino, the nicer the booze you can get. Bellagio and Wynn have some nice stuff, just ask the waitress.

That was what I was guessing....When I'm on the Strip, I usually gamble at the MGM, Caesar's Palace, Bellagio, the Mirage, TI, and the Wynn properties. Maybe I will take a shot and ask for a Blantons or perhaps an Eagle Rare at these joints. I also like the sleazier downtown casinos for their great low limit blackjack and craps, but I'm sure my choices are more limited there. Perhaps EC12, but more likely EW Black will be available, which is still my favorite bottom shelf pour.

Bellagio has a couple of bars surrounded by $1 poker machines. The bar is stocked with lots of high end bourbons and whiskys. If you put $50 into the machine, they are generous with a couple of free comps while you play your $50. Only two or three years ago they were still comping Hirsch Blue Wax 16yo. You generally have to put $20 bucks into a machine to get a free Coors Light at their regular poker bars.....so why not upgrade and maybe win some money.

Wynn also has a couple of bars like this. I recall seeing ER 10yo at many of their bars. Mirage bars have Blanton's.

Not much anymore in LV. A few years back, the Bellagio had Hirsch blue wax that you could get for playing $50 on the bar dollar video poker..

With the recession and the drop in business, the casino-owned bars have cut back on what's available (unless you play in the high roller area).

If you are willing to buy a drink, the best bet is still Craftsteak in the MGM. Great selection and knowledgable bartenders. An alternative would be Lagasse's steak place at the Venetian. You can get all the PVWs at Wynn but it will cost you dearly.

Try the Whisky Attic (off the strip near UNLV) for a wide selection.

Best bet is to pass the casino bars and try the high-end steak joints.

I played at venetian, wynn, and aria on the strip. From the lists the waitress gave me while on the slot machines or at blackjack...knob creek was pretty much the the best of what i was served free. If you play much higher...there may be a better comped list..lol

Enjoyed some VWFRR at Bellagio while playing the $1 poker machines.

They also had PVW 20 but couldn't comp that.

Wish I had been into bourbon when I was in Vegas a few winters past. The bourbons you were/are getting were considerably better than my larger tonic + gin. I guess they were just trying to keep my wits about me so that I could walk away with nearly $1000. (While I've only been to Las Vegas the one time, my wife and I had an essentially free vacation which means that we hope to make it back before too long - with the same luck.)

Do most of the Vegas waitresses have these lists? Did you just ask for it on the casino floor?

I'm a pretty far from a "big fish" when it comes to casino comps...Sometimes I'll bet $25-50 per round on the best games, but usually far less than that. I've only been comped rooms at Bally's, Harrahs, and the old Stardust (before it was imploded). This is why I was curious to see what I could reasonably ask for without getting laughed at by the pit boss or cocktail waitress. It sounds like I can get a BT or a EC12 at most places, which is fine with me.

I usually stay at the Palms and play video poker at the center bar. In the past, I was always comped anything I ordered and they had Bookers, Blantons, Knob Creek, Woodford.

During my last visit, they said new policy was Jim Beam Black only. Anything else was a charge. Over the years, I've gotten to know the evening bartenders there pretty well and they still comped me whatever.

Still, I like really good bourbon and I always take some with me. I've had no problems and never been questioned about pouring some in the room and bringing to casino floor.

I haven't been to Vegas in a while, but I've always found that the best liquor selections can be found in the baccarat lounges. Many of them are for baccarat players only, but the one at the Venetian (you walk through the room to the back where the bar is) should be open to non players. They have an amazing whiskey collection/cigar bar back there. The baccarat louge at The Palazzo and Wynn are private, I believe, but if you can make a friend and get back there, they have all the good stuff (pappy, btac, hirsch, etc.) available.

Since I stayed at the Palazzo last month, I noticed Emeril's Table 10 restaurant on the floor above the playing area (take the escalator up) has a few bottles of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection at the bar.
