Does whiskey mind vibration?

I remember reading for wine storage that bottles should be kept away from vibration because moving the sediment is bad for the wine.

Is the same true for whiskey?

Well that depends where it is. If you have in excess of a half bottle in your belly and it gets vibrated you could have a problem. Problem could be worsened on the proximity to the toilet. :grin:

Everything I've heard about the negative impact of vibration in the wine world is completely speculative. Even if vibration does effect wine, I can't imagine it would be an issue for whiskey. Whiskey is much more hearty than wine and not as affected by such variables.

In discussion with some barrelheads that age their own, I have heard some say that motion in the barrel, helps to age bourbon. I have even heard rumors (which I may be gullible enough to give credence to on here) of people driving around with the barrel in the trunk for a few months. But I would imagine that if its OK in the barrel then it would be OK in the bottle.

Kelt Cognac does something similar which they call ocean maturation in which they send their barrels out to sea so they slosh around.

I can't see it being an issue. If you have an unfiltered bottle, the tiny bits of char are moving around and not settling at the bottom, which may be advantageous.
