BTAC - Handy with no ABV label

A store down the street from me has 2 bottles of The Thomas H. Handy. They look exactly the same as the pictures I've seen online except that neither has the label on the bottom showing proof/ABV, nor does it appear that the labels have merely fallen off. As someone who is very new to the BTAC (never seen one outside a bar), can I be confident that I am getting the BTAC Handy, or is there some other Handy line that I'm not aware of.

Dave, there is only 1 Thomas Handy around. There is the "Baby Sazerac" but that label makes no mention of the name Thomas Handy. I had a bottle of Sazerac 18 at one point that did not have the handwritten sticker label with the bottling year on it. I think they must just miss the fact the bottle wasn't properly labeled before they get shipped out. I ended up emailing BT about it and they mailed a label that had been filled out to me. You can tell which year the Handy is by reading the tiny bottle code on the bottle that is usually found on the back near the bottom. I'm not sure if the older BTACs have the code but have seen it on the bottles from the last couple of years.

Sadly you will find this happens all too frequently at most stores. They'll stock the high end juice but no one will have a clue what it is, regardless of the spirit.

Wow...imagine that...hard to believe. Wish I had a nickel for every store I've visited where I get totally blank looks when I ask about Weller, Sazerac or Stagg...lol

We have a liquor store here on Colorado's western slope where the owners know bourbon, a few employees have a passing knowledge and the population is clueless. Hence the picture I posted of the stack of GTS, WLW, THH, and Saz cases I posted earlier, and I have been laying away a bottle now and again.

In my opinion, there has not been any significant difference between the different years of Handy. Which, also in my opinion, is a really good thing, as I love this whiskey. So, if you like the Handy, and it's <$70, hen I would recommend picking it up. Have seen it still in the high $50 range around town, but I still think that may be one of the great deals in Bourbonia. BTW, me loves the Handy.

I went back and picked it up. Looking forward to cracking this one. It was a little pricey, just under $70. Since this is the first BTAC bottle I've ever seen on a shelf, I felt like I needed to jump on it. Ah, the power of scarcity.

I have yet to open mine too, waiting on my brother to get back stateside. He works on a private yacht so life is tough for him.[sarcasm] :grin:

I bought a bottle three weeks ago,and I left two on the shelf. Came back today and picked up the second one. Maybe I can scrape up enough to get the last one if it doesn't disappear first. :shocked: :shocked:
