steeltownbbq
I know all of us here are mature, responsible drinkers. But....How do you handle the occasional overindulgence?
TomH
1. Have parties at my house so I don't have to drive home.2. Attend functions like WhiskyFest, Sampler, KBF, etc and stay at site or within walking or public transportation range.3. Luckily have a wife that is fine with staying sober to drive me home.4. Have a wife that pulls me out of the hallway of the hotel when I go out in just my briefs to try and get foam pillows instead of feather ones after a very long WhiskyFest. In other words....stay at home and if I go out make sure my wife can keep a lease on me! deathevocation
Drink around two litres before bed. If this doesn't do it, a heap of painkillers in the morning, a sugary rehydrant drink like Gatorade and some sleep.

Beer&Bourbon
Pedialyte. Chug a bottle before you go to sleep. It'll help your body recover from the dehydration and electrolyte loss. (Make sure you drink it before bed; it's tough to down it all, but it's damn near impossible with a hangover.)

tmckenzie
Best thing I have found is lots of water while drinking, and take a b complex vitamin before drinking and before bed. I used to never get hangovers, but My Dr told me to cut back from every night to the weekends only, and my tolerace has gone way down. Now when I drink 1/4 of what I used to, I feel rough the next morning.
Young Blacksmith
When indulging in the evenings I tend to gauge my buzz around 9, and if I keep pouring I'll do a glass of water between pours. An ibuprofen and b-complex before my eyes close for the final time, washed down with as much water as I can stand has served me well many times.Usually I stop around the 9pm mark though! callmeox
Drink at least a glass of water for each serving of alcohol. The only thing more plentiful than great bourbon at the Gazebo gatherings is water...and for good reason.
ebo
I usually call myself an idiot and swear I will never do that again. It seems like I've been doing that for around 34 years now.
silverfish
Drink at least a glass of water for each serving of alcohol. While easier said than done (especially in a party setting)that is probably the best thing you can do. I think I read somewhere that alcohol shrinks your "brain skin" which is what causes that headache the morning after. Thewater keeps the brain skin "loose" and can help preventyou feeling like crap.On the other hand, DrinkHacker has 25 entries in thehangover "cures" category. Maybe one of those will work for you. ratcheer
@steeltownbbq, I have learned to handle it by avoiding it. Some years ago, a quote from a poet led me to understand that I should quit drinking so much."Ah, martinis. One's just right, two's too many, three's not enough." - Dorothy ParkerAt first, I just thought it was hilariously funny. But after several weeks or months of enjoying it, I came to realize that the real wisdom is in the first part: One's just right. So, I came up with a personal dictum, that I will almost always have just one drink. Occasionally, I will allow myself two. On the very rare occasions when I do break down and have a third one, I have a hard and fast promise to myself to stop there. And no, I don't work around it by pouring extra strong drinks and counting them as one.Tim
ILLfarmboy
Sleep....................I always try to sleep through a hangover. Drinking plenty of water before going to bed can help but then I have to get up several times in the night to pee. Mostly, I just try to sleep it off. I find that if I have had too much, I wake up quite early as I can't sleep. I then have to suffer for a number of hours before I can sleep (usually early afternoon). I then sleep for 3 or so hours and after that, am ok. That's another reason why I don't get drunk.

camduncan
Staying in bed and moaning for 8 hours cures any hangovers!!Steffen Steffen, you just described last Sunday for me with the addition of a splitting headache that no pain killers could dull Sadly I bit it big time after drinking the following pours/drinks with Scott (Hightower): Old Overholt Old Fashined Virginia Gentleman Devils Cut Four Roses Single Barrel WL Weller Fourth Barrel WL Weller KBS Barrel Jack Daniels White Label Makers Mark Mint Julep ETL KBS Barrel Some Coffee Liquor thing in shots. Lucky for me my wife & daughter were in forgiving moods, and left me to my suffering until about 4.30pm when I finally felt human again :skep:
