I just come across an old OGD 100 proof. I didn't ask to look over the bottle but (behind the counter) it was in a similiar bottle to what the 114 proof comes in - my understanding is that the 100 proof isn't produced this way anymore. Did Jim Beam utilise the old bottle before changing and should I be able to identify if it's pre-Jim Beam by checking a date on the bottle? FWIW - this bottle is cheaper than the price I'd pay for a new OGD here in Australia. Thanks for any information.

Round these parts, the way to ID if it's from the Beam era is to check the city listed. If it's Frankfort & Clermont, then it's Beam. If it's just Frankfort, it's National Distillers. BUT...

The early Beam stuff was made at the Old Grand-dad distillery in Frankfort. So if it has Clermont on the label, but there is a number on the bottom of the bottle that is 87-91 then it is ND distillate. This goes for Old Taylor, too.

As for me, I like the Beam version better. The ND Old Taylor on the other hand...

If you're talking about the bottles that Spiros have in stock, I've got a (unsubstantiated) feeling they are sourced via the Europe/UK market, and therefore are in a different shaped bottle.

Couldn't find them on the Spiros website. I'll go to the store tomorrow and if it's an old one per Josh's post, I'll buy it and post a photo.

It had Clemont on the bottle though no date on the bottom. It might be as Cam is saying, that is, sourced from Europe as the distributor on the bottle is listed as being in Glasgow. It looks old though I passed on it.

Here's a picture of the bottle in question.... I can only find vague references on what appears to be a French website, so I am still assuming it's a European release.

That's the one. I ended up getting the 114.
