Has BT changed over the past year?

BT has been unavailable here for about 1 year. I remember having it a year ago and it being great bourbon. A month ago a bought a bottle of Blantons SB and enjoyed it a lot, read some posts here about the batch being a good one.

Yesterday once BT was in stock I stocked up...and I was very surprised on the profile. The profile taste was very similar to Blantons SB. I actually liked it as much as the Blantons, being a little less sweet and less creamy.

My question is...has BT always had similar notes to Blantons? Did this batch of BT mature in a similar environment to Blantons and get similar profile? Or...my palate 1 year ago didn't pick up those notes and BT was always this way, only my palate has changed?

Definitely the same distillery. Different ages for sure and blantons is a single barrel which means more bottle variation than a "batch" bourbon like buffalo trace. Can't speak to the mash bill or if the buffalo trace is taken from "warehouse H"

They are different mashbills. BT uses the higher corn masbill and Blantons uses the lower corn (higher rye) masbill.

I can't speak to the BT vs Blantons. But I can say, of the last two bottles of Buffalo Trace I had, one was one of the most enjoyable bourbons I have ever had, and that was followed up with a bottle that tasted like it was filled with Peat Moss... Very disappointing. I have read similar experiences from others as well... So I am not sure of they changed so much as they seem inconsistent.

Buffalo Trace is what I consider my table bourbon. Definately enjoyable an always keep it around. I like sweeter more maple syrup bourbons and it tickles my fancy just fine. As far as changing i can't say, tasted it for the first time in summer of 2011. Huge BT fan of whatever they put out, high quality and great taste.

I thought it was the other way around. BT uses the higher rye mashbill and Blanton's uses the higher corn mashbill. I may be wrong, though.

Well, my personal tastes (I am not a high rye drinker) ... And more importantly the Whiskey Tree agree with ejmharris. Bt is the high corn, low rye mashbill.

I just think BT is awesome juice. First off, it's delicious so you can drink it straight. Second, it's cheap enough ($18.99 here) that you can mix it without feeling bad about it. Just a great everyday bottle to have around.

Even at the more transparent distilleries, tour guides tend to be fonts of apocrypha and misinformation.

BT is my go to bourbon - I always have it stocked and has only been available here for the last year or two - a bit pricey @ $49.95 per bottle - but worth it.
