Just received this email from SV:

Due to events out of our control, Shoppers Vineyard will no longer be able to ship spirits. We will continue to run specials, but all purchases will have to be made in-store. Additionally, any pending orders that include spirits will unfortunately be cancelled. If you'd like to make arrangements to pick your order up in-store please contact us.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Well, I guess it was a good run but not being able to access their offerings is going to hurt...

That is a bummer, they just had a Knob Creek Single Barrel special with free shipping yesterday that was going to last all week. Now I do not see it, I knew I should have ordered yesterday.

Thanks for the update.

Best regards, tony

I hope they beef up their in store selections now, there was always more available online vs what was actually on the shelves (at least in the couple of times I was in the store).

Is it b/c of new jersey or local laws, or was it something they're being reprimanded for?

It has nothing to do with New Jersey law... at least nothing new. As a matter of fact, New Jersey just (finally) passed a law allowing "small" Wine (but not spirits... dammit) sellers to ship to New Jersey (much to the chagrin of the distributors that fought it vehemently).

I know Elephant Wine (no where near as good with price or selection) in New Jersey is still shipping spirits... at least so far.

It also seemed to happen quite suddenly as their blog had announced a new special this week (Knob Creek Single Barrel as aea6574 pointed out) yesterday morning, but by midday, their spirits section was offline, and now this notification).

I am going to try and stop by there later this week, and I will see if I can get the scuttlebutt on what really happened.

**EDITED**

Early rumors are problems with UPS and/or FedEx since technically, you are not allowed to ship spirits (but wine is OK) to anyone but "licensed consignees"

Definitely. My curiosity is aroused.

So are the people who still ship saying the contents are wine instead of a spirit, then? Or perhaps they just aren't asking and the shippers assume it is wine?

This better not happen to PS. That would suck even more.

Sorry to hear about shoppers. I would imagine SV is taking a big hit in sells because of this.

They were the only company I've ordered from which did not put that sticker on the package declaring it was alcohol. Now, if the shipping company sincerely didn't know what was in the packages... well, that would be pretty funny, actually. I don't know if they got some flack for that, or for something else they did that wasn't more "by-the-book". I very dearly hope it's temporary, since they often have some great stuff and decent prices.

IDK...but, I got the jitters tonite and went ahead with a new TPS order just in case. So much for the self-imposed buying freeze. Oh well, as I tell the wife, it could be blondes and boats I spend money on...lol

Wouldn'ta mattered:

So I can no longer purchase from Binny's as well.. even though they don't list CT has a state they cannot ship to. I go to check out and I get a message that they can't ship to CT.

.. also PS website is down as of right now. Hopefully it's not b/c they are making changes to the site so you cannot order spirits for shipment.

Drinkupny is still up and shipping. I would hate this about PS. I'll bet some threatening letters went out. Next up is probably that site that sells "collectable containers". Then all those hoarding investors will have a well deserved crash:shocked:

Looks like my PS order was processed and shipped out today. I sure hope they don't stop online sales. That is the only way for me to have a total 4R experience....and let me tell you, it quite a potent lineup that Jay has selected from 4R. I am just about convinced that 4R is doing great things that will only make the entire bourbon market better for everyone....as long as they don't fall into allocation mode.

Whatever is going on at SV, they are being tight lipped about it. I couldn't fet anyone to go beyond the, "we no longer ship spirits" statement. Even the "due to events beyond our control" seems to have been taken out (and removed from their Facebook page as well)

 Nice, T!! The big bucks, high demand, bottles will say, "Bottle comes complete with actual invoice and FedEx shipping documents for complete traceability!"
