It looks like it has been a while since this has been done. (somebody will undoubtedly prove me wrong)

Anyway, for those lucky enough to have a Bourbon Den, Man Cave, or home bar; pony up some pics.

The rest of us could use some motivation to get moving and build our own.

Wow, mrviogner, that is a seriously impressive rye collection. Is that a High West 12 tucked in there? I was never been able to get one and I hear it is now all gone. I absolutely love the 16 and I would be curious to hear your thoughts on how the 12 compares.

The 12 year IS pretty special. We were only able to get five barrels of this one-of-a-kind LDI rye. It's 95% rye with 5% malted rye. Lots of cinnamon, spice, and dried fruits. The 16 year is 80% rye with 10% each corn and malted barley. Still very much a spicy, rye-laden joy, the 16 shows a bit more barrel char.

Both the 12 and 16 are, sadly, long gone...we have no more bottles at the distillery. There's still some out in the market, but it's getting snatched up by fans.

Good thread. I'm probably 2-3 years away from a move, and we're likely to build. I've already started campaigning for a basement bar. Hopefully some good pics will encourage the wife.

Thanks! Working on the retail side of the wine/spirits biz allows me somewhat easier access to the harder to find stuff.

The large Aussie presence on this site is interesting to me. You can't get much farther away from bourbon, originally speaking, but there you are enthusiastically waving for more bourbon love!

Sorry to go a bit off topic here, but how do you account for the disproportionately large contingency of Australian bourbonians on SB, Cam?

It could be a couple of things, but I think it's mostly that Aussies like bourbon I'm not sure if the figure is after the US or not, but Australia is the largest consumer of bourbon RTD's in the world, so we drink a bit for a nation of only 22 million.:skep:

As for the members on here, I think there about a dozen of us... give or take. A few of us are more active than others, and because our day time is (mostly) evening in the US, it might seem like we're here more frequently than we probably are.

My first job out of college was with NCR. It's a 500 class that was made in 1911 for a hardware store here in central Illinois. I bought it at the auction when the store sold out so I'm only the second owner. In fact, I was talking to an older lady after the auction - no doubt the original owner's daughter - who told me that she remembered playing with that register as a little girl!

I took every piece of brass off (32 of them) and had each cleaned, polished, and laquered, and then I reassembled. It works as well as the day it was made - with the exception of a period of time about 10-12 years ago when the whole thing locked up and just wouldn't cycle. Then I read somewhere that kids would sometimes put coins down the printer slot - sure enough - I found a penny wedged in the gears. (Darn kids) I had to take that penny out in pieces but it now runs like a top again.

I love these old registers as the perfect example of the pride, workmanship, and ornate beauty that used to be put into products of that day. And they don't look half bad on a bar, either.

Very cool. That is a beauty, alright. I visited NCR's former world headquarters in Dayton many times over the years and always enjoyed the display of gorgeous early cash registers just off the lobby.
