Cutty 12 and Pinch 12 question

I bought a these two bottles today from the late 70s. Does anyone know anything about them.

Where did you buy them?

I have only consumed some of the more current Cutty Sark...it ok, nothing special. Never had Pinch 12.

Open them and tell us your tasting impression.

Both brands are still sold. Cutty is a very light blend with no peat signature. The main malt in the blend is Glen Rothes. It's owned by Campari, same folks that own Wild Turkey.

I don't know that much about Pinch off hand, but that's what the internet is for. As for them being old bottles, old bottles of a blend that's still sold are little more than curiosities.

You're right. I confused myself because Skyy Spirits (now Campari America) had the U.S. marketing franchise until the middle of last year. Campari America still has The Glen Rothes, which is the malt at the heart of Cutty's blend.

Cutty Sark Scotch whisky moved from Skyy Spirits to Rémy Cointreau, effective June 25. The move completed the consolidation of brand-owner Edrington Group’s U.S. market portfolio into Remy Cointreau, which already handled Edrington’s Highland Park, The Macallan, The Famous Grouse and Brugal brands. I figured as much, but they were cheap and my wife loves the bottles. The Cutty is octagonal shaped and the Pinch looks much like the current bottle.

I've always thought Pinch had a great bottle.

I haven't had it in a long while, but as I recall Pinch was better than Chivas IMO.

The dusty Pinch bottles are different.. 12 yr vs the current 15yr.

I've enjoyed them very much, except the bottle that had off flavors. I'm still convinced it was the plastic cap!

However, I had a number of mini bottles that were very enjoyable. That is, of the older 12yr stuff. I have read opinions stating that the current 15yr is not as good.
