I was browsing COLA tonight and this caught my eye:

It appears it was approved a week ago, but I haven't seen any other mention at SB.

I don't how I feel about this and what (if anything it means for the current RR). No age statement (surprise, surprise), but 110 proof and non-chill filtered.

Hasnt WT for the most part dropped age statements?

Although, I imagine that this product would be a significant improvement over the current RR since the proof is increasing. I hear nothing but good things about the defunct RR101.

I'll be on the lookout, but if this follows the release of everything else Dallas probably wont see it until months after its release in Kentucky.

Good find. I wonder what this means for 80 proof RR down the road. Also, would they do the same with the rye?

I'll have to search for the post later, but I remember someone on here saying a few months ago that Jimmy (or was it Eddie?) mentioned that Rare Breed would soon be non-chill filtered. Could this be replacing Rare Breed? Actually, if this is single barrel and barrel proof(ish), I'd wager this would replace RB and KS.

They better hadn't discontinue the Rare Breed! First they water down my rye, now I hear rumors of no more RB???!!!! Makes me almost want to quit drinking all WT products if it comes true!

So, having read the previous thread, also knowing a potential new product will be replacing the current....do I bothering grabbing a bottle of RR (current?)

Down here in Dallas TX it will become impossible to get WT dusties becuase (as I was told) the rep will pay the retailer to completely re-stock with the newer label and take back all the old product. That happened with the recent label change to WT 101.

I love WT 101 standard. I just havent branched out to KS or RR yet. If they come out with an unfiltered line, I would definitely go for that!

Why does every one speculate the worst case scenario when something new comes out? Everyone has been wanting RR101 back this is RR 101 in overdrive. Lets wait and see what happens before we start bitching. Just because someone moved your food dish an inch to the side don't have a hissy. Same goes for the Rye 81 /Rye 101.

Which current are they replacing? This could replace RR, RB and KS in one fell swoop. They heard us tanking KS in bourbon of the month and needed to act.

Well, I avoided Rare Breed, Russel's Reserve, and Kentucky Spirit because the reviews didn't justify the cost.

My question I suppose is whether or not they really are worth picking up, or only the older discontinued releases?

For $30 to $35 Rare Breed is still worth it. But the older stuff was better. If you've never tasted the older RBs the current is just fine

Russell's Reserve is pretty good, too, at under $30. If it was under $25 I would be even more excited about it.

Wild Turkey is kind of a victim of their own success. They made some incredible booze in the not that distant past, and the current stuff doesn't quite measure up. But that doesn't mean that the current product is bad, quite the contrary. It's very good.... just has big shoes to fill.

Get the rare breed and thank me later. I've never bought RR because in my opinion, $30 is a lot for a 90 proof bourbon. I hope this new one is coming soon. I can smell the honey barrels already.

Normally I'd say take a wait-and-see approach. A lot of labels get approved for products that don't ever get used.

But you know, I've never been burned by underestimating people.

It looks like to me that this is a way for them to keep the Russell's Reserve Brand interesting while removing the age statement. Because they've probably figured out by now that we (as in, bourbon enthusiasts) will bitch to high heaven if they drop the 10 year age statement. Lord knows we're still bitching about the old RR 10/101. So maybe they think that we'll forgive them the age statement if they raise the proof to 110 and don't chill filter it.

I guess the next question is, what about Kentucky Spirit? I can't see how having two NAS single barrel expressions serves them. It would be nice if they could put out one single barrel with an age statement... or at least older juice than the current KS.
