A question about OWA

BT claims they are the same. Dumped together and cut to different proofs.

Although the cut out the Age Statement on the OWA... what... a YEAR before they dropped it on the WSR. Which is... odd, if that is in fact true. (Not doubting you... just noting the discrepancy).

I don't have personal knowledge by seeing it happen at the distillery but it has been previously posted (couldn't find it just now) that the barrels for both are dumped at the same time and then brought to their respective proofs. This is why there was anguish when the age statement, after first being dropped on OWA, then also happened to SR and that being the nail in the coffin on actual 7 years of age.

That could easily have to do with technical details such as excess stock of labels, or waiting for COLA approval.

..well there is proof distillers need to sell their middle and upper-end stuff at 100-110 proof. The difference in thickness and richness between SR and OWA is amazing.

There are many posts and blogs detailing the difference that added water/proof levels cause to the same whiskey. Wheaters tend to lose viscosity and more charred ones like WT more bitter. Most Four Roses barrel strengths taste best for me without any water but their regular 100 proof SB is also excellent with the added water so there is always a continuing mystery on whiskey which keeps it all fun and interesting.
