Gentleman Racer
Hey everyone! I'm heading to one of my favorite places in the world Thursday, The Breakers in Palm Beach. Anyone know of any good stores in the area? There are two small places near the hotel, limited selection of the usual suspects. So I thought I'd ask if anyone has found a good store nearby. Thanks! Scott Good luck with that!!! From one relatively new member to another, nobody gives up their favorite spots, particularly to a newbie they don't know. Some for fear it will get cleared out and others because they feel people need to put in a little effort and work for it by doing more than posting on a message board. People may help you locate a particular bottle (there is a forum for that), but don't expect a flood of help here. You will have more help when asking for bourbon bars or restaurants, but not with stores. It's nothing personal, just that the people who know the good stores have spent the time and effort to find them and they just don't give up the honey hole to anyone who asks. The best advice is to map out some stores in the area and stop in to see what they have. You'll quickly determine which ones you'll never need to stop into again. Good luck!! Smithford
Thanks! ScottHi Scott,I'm just back from a business trip to Boca Raton. A couple of kind members here pointed me in the right direction in that town. I don't think I'll be giving away anyone's honey spot by letting you know that Florida's two biggest retailers are Total Wine and ABC Fine Wines. Their stores in Boca and Fort Lauderdale had an adequate supply of good bourbons. Nothing to get too excited about - no Pappy, no EH Taylor, no Parkers Heritage. But I did see a few stray BTACs here and there as well as good stocks of mid to upper shelfers. I took home a Four Roses Single Barrel and a Willett Rye. Not exactly barn-burners, but neither are available where I live, so I was happy. Both Total and ABC have store locators on their websites, and locations in or near Palm Beach. If you only had time to visit one place, I'd say Total Wine has a bigger selection. If you wanted to fill your trunk with cheap handles of Weller, then ABC will do just fine.I found and visited another 7 or 8 smaller stores using Google Maps to explore. That exercise was not worth the time (not in Boca anyway).
scubadoo97
As a Fla resident I can tell you that if you are looking for dusties you won't find them. As Smithford mentioned the two largest retailers are Total Wine and ABC. I have only been able to find Old Weller products at ABC. There are a lot of little independents but I find the selection limited to the big names. You won't have any trouble finding a Jim Beam black or green anywhere. I'm guessing there will be a liquor store near the Breakers. I just did a google search for liquor stores near the Breakers, PB FL. Got a lot of hits on the map. 4 on the barrier Island with 2 very close to the Breakers.
Gentleman Racer
Thanks Guys, the really close stores have very limited selection. They said no one ever really asks for special bourbons, only scotches. There's a nice wine place across the inter-coastal I'll check out too. Have fun, I sure am!
