W.L. Weller 12yr Bottle Question

Hi all,

I bought a bottle of Weller 12 that had a crossed wheat emblem on the glass stating "since 1849". I have since gone to various stores, including the new Specs and I haven't seen this emblem anywhere else.

Was this a one-off bottle or part of a celebratory release or is this common? I provided pictures below, including the number on the bottle. It's actually 'etched' in the glass versus printed.

That emblem was on the bottle for a couple years when they first changed the style and label. It got removed within the past 2 years (obviously since that is a 2010 bottle you have)

I can still get these on the shelf around here. I did notice a subtle difference between that and the current bottle, but nothing too crazy.

My guess (aside from simple cost) is that they started to use the same glass for VOB when Sazerac bought Tom Moore, and neither the wheat nor the date applied.

Hahaha! wow. I have heard of using what's laying around to save a dollar, but that's weird.

IIRC, a Charter 101 I bought had crossed wheat in the glass on the shoulder just below the neck. I thought it was strange because Charter is not a wheater. But I'm not a botanist either and what I took for wheat could be rye. Or, it could be those rascally fellows at BT just making use of whatever bottles they had lieing about.

You'd probably never mistake wheat for rye in the field, but in terms of an artistic rendering they don't look that much different. Wheat kernels are bigger and the beards are coarser.
