A cousin of mine sent me the email below. Any feedback would be appreciated:

Hi cuz. I recently learned that a neighbor of mine hails from Kentucky and, like any true native of that state, is a fan of Bourbon. Brian tasted the Makers Mark Black Seal at his cousin's house (what is it about cousins and Bourbon?) some years ago, but hasn't been able to find it for sale. He thinks it was sold in limited edition to the Japanese market at one time. Have you ever heard of it and do any of your sources have access?

you're in luck. There's a restaurant in Brooklyn called Char no. 4 they might have a bottle. give them a call. It's not gonna be cheap. http://charno4.com/ Being a restaurant, they probably don't sell it by the bottle. Maybe you could ask for it to go?

Ask for it to go?! At that price it should come with an escort.

Other than using black wax...whats the difference from regular MM?

http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-1170.aspx

Maker's Mark Black Label

75cl / 47.5%

Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

A very rare, now-discontinued edition of Maker's Mark. Maker's

Black Label was bottled at a higher-than-normal 47.5% and was

originally only available in the Far East. Discontinued some years

ago and now extremely difficult to get hold of.

The whiskey inside is also older than the standard MM. It's a very nice bourbon and much better than 46 (IMHO). I'm still holding on to a bottle. It was available in Duty Free outlets.

I can't find the threads, but back in the day there was discussion about how great a makers mark black was....but it was 103 proof and again, only available as an export.

I'm a big fan -- that's a bottle right in the middle of my avatar! Everything you want to know about Makers black wax (except where to find it) is in [thread=8232]this thread[/thread], especially this post by Dave Pickerell, who was master distiller when they made it.

Long gone, and I'm nursing my last bottle. It's auction fodder even overseas.
