On our honeymoon, and it's been tough to find anything out here. Basically struck out at every supermarket and wine shop, with the exception of 4 Roses Yellow Label, until we made our way into Cortona. Jackpot! Well close enough anyway. Found a lovely wine shop selling EC 12, Rittenhouse Rye, Evan Williams, and what else but PVW 15, 20 and Lot B. Had to pass on the Pappy as the wife surley was not going to let me spend over $100 on something I have at home, so I picked up an EC 12. We headed down the street to a nice Bar and what did they have to pour but Van Winkle Fam Reserve Rye for 6.50 euros a glass. Never tried it before so we each had one and also enjoyed a pour of Lot B for 8 euros.

Can't wait to get back to my stash on WED.

8 euros for Lot B and 6.50 for VWFRR...you shoulda had another rye and saved the money imo. Pretty good price though. The closest bar to me that serves VWFRR wants $30/pour for it.

Yikes! You can get a whole bottle for around $50, says my cheaper inner voice. In those situations, I always go for a less expensive alternative and get several pours and a few beers, but that's just me.

Italy should be the best place to hunt dusties in europe, but maybe those days are over

In Tuscany I'd go for grappa and wine :-)

I'd getting as much wine as I could out there, but I hope the trip was great. Florence is maybe my favorite city in the world to visit.

Because Italian wine is generally great...and he can get all the bourbon he wants easily back in the states. When in Rome.... (almost literally here)

Some people, like me, don't like wine and won't buy it, even if I'm in Italy or France or California.

You can't get WT101 12yr or 8yr in the US, but they might have it in Italy. That's what I would buy. Or Evan Williams 23.

Fair enough. If it's stuff that you can't get in the US or stuff that appreciably cheaper, by all means it makes sense. I guess I travel to absorb culture...not to do all the things that I do at home. To each their own.

The wine has been fantastic! We've enjoyed going to wineries and speaking with the wine makers while tasting.

As far as the Van Winkle Rye, the 2 pours we had emptied his bottle and there was not another to open.
