I traveled to a store in the older part of town today. Most people who frequent the store just come in for half pints or vodka it seems. Anyway, the last time I was there they had a bag for bottle of Pappy 15 and a few bottles of EC 18. That was about 6 months ago. Today, they had 3 bottles of EC 18 priced $65, a bottle of High West 21 price $119, 2 bottles of WTAS black top with faux tax stamp in an oak box priced $99, and a bottle of PHC at $77. I'd never encountered a PHC, so I bought it. The label says "Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey." It's 127.4 proof. From what I've found this edition was distilled in 1996. Can anyone shed some light on this? Also, are any of the other bottling worth my time?

That's the first edition of the PHC. It is easily "worth" 2-3x that as a collectors item. You should consider trying all four of the other PHC releases.

The "search" field is your friend. Here's a thread to get you started:

There were three different releases to PHC 1st Edition and you have procured a bottle from batch #2. Batch number one was arguably regarded as the best of the three coming in at 122.6 prf, followed by 'your' 127.4 prf as the second best with the batch 3 getting the least amount of praise and weighing in at 129.6 prf.

That was a very nice and rare find indeed. If they have more, buy it all!

Ah, yes, the old 122.6. Man, that was great stuff. I think I have some bunkered but I'll probably never find it.

WTAS came with an oak box? Wow, never heard of that one :( Looks like I've got another wooden box to chase down

The third release of the three (which you didn't get), was a disappointment to me. Too much oak. The other two (including your bottle) are very nice. As noted by HP 12 above, my favorite (which you also didn't get) was the first release. My thoughts on all three here.

I plan on heading back and buying the WTAS for sure in a couple of weeks. I'm sure it will still be there, hopefully.

It's a big square oak box that says Wild Turkey American Spirit in dark black letters (like a faux branding). It has a little silver hinge on the left side. There's nothing spectacular about the box really.

Actually, my WTAS came in a box too. In fact there is a Centinniel that still has a bottle with box at 89.99.
