What bottle do you miss? Summer 2012

I'll start with a dark top WTKS, which really sounds good right now for whatever reason. Alas, I finished this one a few months back, and haven't found a suitable replacement.

Pre 90's regular jim beam white label. Better than anything they have on the market now. I have a couple bottles bunkered, may open one tonight. And some may gasp, but it goes best mixed with coca cola.

Agreed with everything you just said. That bottle of walker came with what I believe to be a early 80's bottle of Beam. It was drinkable neat but was VERY good in coke.

From curiousity, I'd like to try some 1970-1985 Wild Turkey 101. The irony is that might be very similar to my original post of turn-of-the-21st century WTKS.

I'll keep it to the threads question and say Stone Castle Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky because I was stupid enough to only purchase one of several marked down to $13.99. When I returned to the store after opening and tasting this delicious 106 proof unfiltered whiskey they were all gone. Internet research says this was a one off bottling, in a Michter style bottle, by Cecil Withrow around 2001 and during the period he had also purchased and had grand plans for the Old Taylor Distillery. Cecil died and the bottling was made a Japanese export which somehow made it to the bottom shelf of a second rate Chicago area liquor store where I saw it in 2008.

According to a poster on another bourbon forum these barrels then were used 3 years later in the new Michter's name labeled bourbon which Julian Van Winkle and Even Kulsveen once were associated with. Julian was listed as Director for a corporate filing for Michter's American Whiskey Co. on 4/11/00 and then Even on a file date of 7/22/02.

This bottle was shared with others at both a Binny's gathering and the gazebo. The late Tim Sousley thought the whiskey could have originated form DSP-KY-113.

I also wish I'd have purchased another bottle of the BTEC double barreled from a few years ago. I drank a bottle and really enjoyed it, but I at least knew in advance that it would be my only bottle.

I'll second that. I'd trade almost anything in my collection for more Weller Centennial. I haven't had all the iterations, but I have a few in the bunker. If only we could turn back the hands of time when it was ~ $40/bottle I'd buy a few cases and quit this hobby entirely :cool:

Boy, there are more than a few that I miss. But, the one that stands out in my mind is the Very Old Heaven Hill 10 yr. Gorgeously quintessential HH whiskey. Something like $11-1$12. Thing is, I had the chance to load my bunker when it became public knowledge that they were discontinuing it...but I procrastinated, and only managed a few....Which I promptly consumed...:cry:

Totally agree. I have a source, closed liquor store, but the owner and his buds hang out there on Saturday and will sell me anything as long as it is cash. He has a couple hundred bottles left and it taste nothing like the current stuff. The JB profile has changed soooo much that I wonder if it was on purpose or yeast drift. Only problem is that he charges more than the current price. ($20/liter, $30/handle) but it is still so good that I buy it.

The loss of an age statement can presage a decline in quality but another factor is a reduction in proof. For WT fans, Russels Reserve 101, now RR90, fits in this category. And how many SB posts have you read that say, "I like XX at 86 proof but I'd like it a whole lot more at 106"?
