What to try next for this newbie?

Hi guys, just wondering if I could get any recommendations on what to try next based on what I have tried so far.

I know it's not much information and probably hard to recommend something to me since I don't really know how to explain why I like/dislike anything at this stage as I'm still very new to bourbon. But I'm leaving the country (USA) for good very soon and am eager to try as much as I can, in hopes of finding my 'favorites' before I go

Here's what I've tried so far.

Liked:

Buffalo Trace - pretty enjoyable to me. definitely in the right 'direction', but not quite 'the one'.

Weller 12 - nice, but something minor that I am unsure of how to explain keeps me from thinking it 'great'.

Did not like:

Makers mark - not necessarily 'bad', just too sweet for me I think.

Woodford Reserve - wasn't a fan of this one, however it is very interesting...this is one I am tempted to try again down the road. the most 'different' tasting out of everything I have tried so far. until WR I thought most bourbons tasted pretty similar. :shocked: (granted I haven't tried many!)

Weller Special Reserve 7yo - blech. no thanks.

Anyway, any recommendations on what to try next would be very welcome.

Under 30 bucks try Old Weller Antique and Four Roses Small Batch.

Under 40 bucks, Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Four Roses Single Barrel and if you can find it Old Rip Van Winkle 10yo 107prf.

Current Elijah Craig 12yo has been pretty good lately, so I'd go with that (in addition to the Four Roses 1B suggestions).

I felt the same way about Woodford (dill pickle?). High West Redevous Rye was the bottle that stole my heart from the Scots. Its a bit pricey but well worth it. For an everyday, ER10, EC12, or Weller 12.

Try to find some Elmer T Lee. I typically find it for less than $30 and it's never let me down.

As with the above, I would add Old Forester Signature, Old Ezra 7r 101 and VOB BIB as excellent value pours.

You guys are excellent. Having a direction to head really helps me out.

I'll definitely be picking up all* of these suggestions over the next few weeks to try out before I leave. I'd love to try everything once, but I really didn't want to spend money on anything further without some tips, since I'm so short on time.

*I might have to come up with some sort of plan of attack for trying the different Four Roses mashbills, since it appears the single barrel and the small batch BOTH come in multiple choices (10 for Single Barrel, 4 for Small Batch if I'm reading right?) hmm

edit: Nevermind, I think I misread and while there are 10 different mashbill choices for the single barrel, the small batch is always the same (a mix of 4 mashbills). I think that's right.

I'm actually originally from Australia, but have been living in the US for a few years now. Moving back to Aus with my family shortly. We'll be visiting here from time to time I'm sure since my wifes family is all over here, just not very often.

No, the Single Barrel is always OBSV.

The Small Batch is OBSK, OBSO, OESK & OESO.

Thank ya! I know camduncan is from Aus, and has helped me out here in the past. Really a great forum here in general. I do plan on taking as much as I can, which reminds me, to the people suggesting Old Rip 107.. I actually have a bottle that I have been saving (with great difficulty :grin:) to take with me and open when we get there.

It's been really hard not to open it. But given that we will be heading to Aus so soon and it is somewhat hard to find (especially in Australia, and far more expensive) I figured it smarter to take in my luggage. Can't wait to try it.
