Brian I'm reluctant to say any screw top closed Bourbon could be 'spoiled' or 'bad' in the same sense that a cork closed bottle of wine or spirits can be tainted by a bacterial infection of the cork. Somewhat rare but such things do happen.

To Heaven Hill's credit they provide us with better than average bang for buck BIBs but we can't expect the Dant expression we buy today will match the flavor profile of the one we bought ten years ago or the one we'll buy a decade hence.

The old HH plant did produce bourbon to me that had a strong corn flavor, very distinctive. I liked it myself. More than the new stuff.

Dant BIB is the bourbon I drink the most. I get it for $16 a liter, and it is, in my very humble opinion, the best bang for the buck out there (Fighting Cock is my number two).

I have, wrong kind of corny, it is way too thin for me, unless it has gotten better in the last few years.

I doubt that it's improved much. Pretty young and hot. Like sucking on corn leaves.

A friend brought over a bottle of Cabin Still a couple of years ago and we thought it was way too sweet and thin. Good for a mixer, but not much else.

I enjoy the corn flavor I get from current HH bottles, but the old Dant flavor is definitely corn oil and not much fun to drink. I also have a 200mL of DSP-KY-113 Dant that is very good. Nothing like the current stuff. Keeping my eye out for more of that.

I like cherries. Maybe I'll have to try to get my hands on a current Dant BIB...
