humchan2k
It's hot as hell in LA today....and so I'm just sitting here in the shade, sippin' on a variety of things - EC20, Smooth Ambler 14 yr...a couple top shelf beverages, until I poured a quick little taste of BT...and you know what, Buffalo Trace is just so.....good. It has the best mouthfeel, it's got flavor, it's smooth and wonderful....and we don't give it a lot of attention on this board...so I'm just giving a random :toast: to the BT folks..thanks for the good stuff! Josh
It's been a while since I had the standard edition of BT, but I've had several retailer bottlings (Binny's & Khan's) that were very good. My last Binny's bottle had this great toasted marshmallow thing going on.
camduncan
Nothing wrong with a standard pour of Buffalo Trace (even at 80 proof)..... In fact, I still rate it's release into the Australian market as the biggest bourbon event in this country in the last 6 years!

It has a great slot right between AAA and ELT in my heart.
White Dog
Well, I guess I can say that I like it better than Eagle Rare.
JB64
BT is a very good bourbon which is part of my monthly rotation, I decided to have a pour this evening. When comparing it to other bourbons of similar cost I tend to like WT101 better.
ILLfarmboy
I love me some BT.One of the only 90 proofers I like.

humchan2k
Glad to see some love for BT up in here. I just think that for $20/bottle (Thanks, Daves of K&L), how can you possibly beat it!?!? I also don't understand why anyone likes Eagle Rare, I can't stand the stuff.....ugh.
DPPSmoker
Candy apples dominates my palate when I drink Buffalo Trace. I love the sweet and sour thing going on with BT.

DaveOfAtl
=I'd love to see a 101 proof BT! While we're at it, how about a 101 proof 10 year old BT? :skep:
HighInTheMtns
Which would be ER101, right? I would like to see that too, but they sell it all as CEHT and charge a hefty premium for that fancy bottle.

HighInTheMtns
For some reason I was thinking that ER and BT have a different mashbill...I guess I need to refer to Josh's Whiskey Tree to check things!
DaveOfAtl
:grin:I need to try a CEHT one of these days, I've been passing them up pretty regularly this summer. Can't imagine I won't enjoy it when I do, like this thread says, BT sure does make some good bourbon.I've liked them all, especially the Tornado and the Barrel Proof. T Comp
I appreciate that they employ one of our own and the best distillery tour guide in the business...mobourbon! He also makes it to gazebo gatherings and even though, he could only stay a short while for the KBF picnic this year, still brought full bottles of both a Weller and a CEHT and left them.BT (the distillery) puts out some excellent whiskey...as all the major do...okay......maybe not, at least currently, WT. BradleyC
I'm a fan of Buffalo Trace. The price is right, the quality is there, and it is very consistent. I surprised myself doing a blind tasting of regular BT and ER/10. They each have their own positive qualities but I leaned towards the Buffalo Trace. I'll have to echo Thad's comment in that they have some great tour guides. Mine was great. He was very passionate and highly knowledgeable. He spent a lot of time talking with me afterwards 1 on 1 and had some really good info. I think they are a great distillery all around.
Dolph Lundgren
They're both mash #1.ER is only slightly older than trace, but the flavor profile is very different. Why is that (barrel selection, location in storage, etc.)?
HighInTheMtns
ER is only slightly older than trace, but the flavor profile is very different. Why is that (barrel selection, location in storage, etc.)?Ultimately the answer to this question is barrel selection, but I have never seen anything specific about whether that selection involves certain warehouses or floors (a-la Blanton's.) humchan2k
How interesting....I don't think BT tastes much like ER10 at all! Am I weird that way? I heart BT, I do not buy or like ER. Huh, learn something new every day around here.
HighInTheMtns
From my point of view you're not weird... I'm rarely without an open BT. Can't remember the last time I had an ER10.
