Best Binny's to visit for a week's visit to Chi-town

Hi All,

I'm going to Chicago on business in a couple of weeks (first time I've ever visited the windy city!), and I was wondering if one particular Binny's location stood out to you in terms of selection, etc? I'm looking for an interesting assortment to peruse. I probably won't buy that much (I'm only checking one large bag for this nearly week long trip), but am definitely thinking about picking up a Larceny which isn't available around here at this time, as well as some Barton BIB, which definitely isn't available here.

One other thing...I'd prefer that these locations be within reasonable walking distance to the CTA subway stations.

The South Loop location usually has their biggest selection of everything. If I was only going to hit one, that would be my choice.

The South Loop location usually has their biggest selection of everything. If I was only going to hit one, that would be my choice.

More than even selection...the South Loop...your talking a Straight Bourbon shrine. The red line Roosevelt subway station stop is a block away. If you don't know, two of our members work at that location too. PM me if you want further info for saying hello to them when there.

That's a long block. It's a good 10 minute walk at a brisk pace; I walk it in about 15 minutes from the Roosevelt red line station.

Agreed. if you go to one, that's the store. Very helpful gentleman there to help you find what you are looking for-I speak from recent experience!

And it's so much more than just bourbon, its a wonderland of many temptations.

Plus, a good place across the way for a bite to eat.

Definitely south loop- the selection is great, plus they have the most knowledgable staff (member lost polito aka Joe is at that location). Lincoln park and clark street arent bad choices by any means though.

Wherever you go, remember- there are a decent amount of bottles open behind the counter if you are not sure what to buy. Don't be afraid to ask to sample some of what they have.

Point number three (and this might be the most important one)- make sure you get some of their hand picked selections. Buffalo trace, Elmer t lee, four roses, knob creek, and ec18 are all hand picked. I recommend the BT, elmer, and 4R, but especially the BT. You pay 25 (or 50 if you buy the handle) for something they could be charging almost double for.

All Binny's locations in the city are well stocked (South Loop, Loop, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, etc...). Also, their select barrels are generally some of the best bangs for your buck. However...this years Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare leave something to be desired. The trace is way too hot for a 90 proofer, and the Eagle is just off (Eagle is my go-to, by the way). But, grab a Binny's select E.H. Taylor or Elmer if you see one - both are great whiskeys.

I was at this Binny's today! It is true that they have an incredible selection of bouron. I wish that I had driven instead of flown in so I could take back a few cases.
