weller_tex
I was perusing the Spec's (Houston) website today and see a John J. Bowman Single Barrel for $51. Has anyone had this?

Clavius
I've tried it and I liked it. But only after the bottle had been open for some time.

wadewood
It is a SB bourbon, so unless I know we are tasting a bottle from same barrel, my opinion might be irrelevant. I have had a specific retailer (not specs) hand selected bottling of this bourbon that was superb - 93 pts. I tried a pour from a bottle that came from Specs; it was good, but not as good as this other barrel. Bowman also received TX label approval at the same time for Bowman Brothers Virginia SB Whiskey - Small Batch at 90 proof. I have not seen this TX but expect it soon. I was involved with a group barrel buy of this and we purchased 2 barrels and I love it.
HP12
Like wadewood, I've tried some single barrel bottles and have compared against a private barrel bottling. The scale runs from ok, to good to superb, with the private barrel being stellar and a benchmark for this expression. It's hit or miss with JJB unless you find a honey barrel private offering that floats your boat.
redbear
Saw both of these at the Costco liquor store today. Edit: I was referring to the single barrel and the small batch. It is a SB bourbon, so unless I know we are tasting a bottle from same barrel, my opinion might be irrelevant. Phil T
TPS has a couples different SB's. I've only had barrel 45. It is sweet, smoky, woody deliciousness. I know Josh likes the SmB, and at $23 cheaper, I will definitely pick up a bottle next time I'm there.I have yet to have a a Bowman that failed to satisfy.
