cas
Well I did a search and found an ancient deer camp thread, but this one is about Deer Camp Straight Bourbon Whiskey; a buddy brought me a bottle from a weekend trip to Lake Leelanau, MI. It is a product of the "Northern Latitudes Distillery", which seems to have an extremely modest web presence. It's 86 proof and aged 3 years. Anyone know anything about this product? I haven't opened the bottle yet, but I'll offer some thoughts after I give it a taste. Not sure where a brand new operation is getting 3 year old whiskey... but maybe the web site will eventually have more info. And it is almost that time of year - so for all the deer hunters and non-hunters, maybe a viewing of da yoopers is appropriate: Craig
Josh
Deer Camp, eh? Who wouldn't love a bourbon that invokes the aromas of cheap beer, BO and deer urine? They have an FB with some pics on it. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Northern-Latitudes-Distillery/288322324533345#!/pages/Northern-Latitudes-Distillery/288322324533345I would guess the whiskey was sourced since they have a lot of pics of their facilty being built that were posted back in August. Tried it yet?
tmckenzie
there is currently a 3 year old available from LDI. Maybe that is it. A broker called trying to get me to buy some to stretch our stocks with. I told him no, if it did not come out of our still then we wanted no part. The next sales pitch was, and coming to a micro near you soon, is get this. Some micros are buying gns to add to low abv mashes. The let it "infuse" a few days then distill it as bourbon, rye, etc. He dropped it when I told him that now way in hell would that be legal. I do not know what some of theese folks are smoking. Tried it yet?I tried some last night and it tastes a lot like you might expect an underaged, low proof bourbon to taste. A little hot, no depth, and not much character. It wasn't bad, just not very interesting. Maybe on ice on a hot summer day it might go well, but no need to run out and buy a bottle.Craig
