awachatz
Well, had a strange experience at a store out by my parents. Bought 3 bottles of an allocated rye because it was at the state min and I enjoy drinking it. The store owner took my license and credit card. He then proceeded to write down my license information claiming that he is required to track sales on multiple bottle purchases in case my intent was to re-sell the product online, which it is not.I have never run across this before and find it quite odd. Has anyone else run into this? Is there anything inappropriate that he could do with my info? callmeox
I think he was looking for other identifying information from you so that he could buy concert tickets on your credit card.

Either he is not up to date or he is up to something fishy.

Will check my credit card tomorrow and may cancel it just to be safe.Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2 Edited November 25, 2012 by awachatz

Tony
Never heard of such a thing for liquor in Michigan. I know they now have some rules around buying kegs.Best regards, Tony
squire
Completely out of line, he has other motives. Even if you were to resell it, so what? Once it's yours what you do with it is none of his business.
BFerguson
There is a store that a hit occasional that does something similer, except they scan your license into the POS. They clearly have it posted that the ID is required for any transactionB
squire
Call me old fashioned (well, old anyway) but that sort of thing is just too personally intrusive for my tastes. If my local tried something like that a good chunk of his customers would take their trade elsewhere.
Restaurant man
So assuming that they knew exactly what you bought and found those same bottles online, how would they know they were YOUR bottles? LongBeachScott
So assuming that they knew exactly what you bought and found those same bottles online, how would they know they were YOUR bottles? For that matter, how would they expect to know your eBay account name?I would call the police and let them know about it. Also, call the manager. He should be able to tell you if they require this and why. If they don't, he will know he has a problem.
LostBottle
Call the owner and see if this is an actual policy. If it is, online reviews should reflect your feelings. If not, you made the owner aware of a sketchy employee.

squire
Why are the authorities requiring this owner to treat three bottles as a multi bottle purchase? One has to wonder what he's been up to in the past.
awachatz
I just called police dispatch and reported the store taking down my information. I have had my credit card number stolen several times over the past couple years and don't want to take the chance this guy is doing something inappropriate with my info. I am suppose to get a call from an officer to discuss.Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk

If the guy wanted to he could just limit the purchase quantity to one per customer. He had no objections to taking my money and letting me buy 3 bottles. It is way too fishy.Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2 Edited November 25, 2012 by awachatz
Special Reserve
Tony,Was this in MI?I've purchased 3 or more bottles of the same item several times in MI including just recently. I've never had that experience. Will
awachatz
Will,Yeah this was in Michigan. I have only shopped at the store twice. The first time I bought one bottle, a month or two ago. The store has some older stuff on the shelves, but I won't be shopping there again.

Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2Well the guy is a jackass. I usually don't like doing business with jackasses but I won't hurt myself to avoid doing business with a jackass. If you get there often just buy two of each from him until you got what you want. There is a store on Middlebelt by Pontiac Trail that had some PVW a year ago but would sell to me as I wasn't one of his wine customers. He complained about people flipping on eBay so he only sold to those he knew. What he didn't know was that I took 6 or 7 bottles of OCPR SS out of his store a few years back when the moved a couple of doors down the street. The kid behind the counter didn't know the price and it wasn't in the book so he charged me the price for the basic Old Charter. He was happy to make the sale and so was I. awachatz
Will,I agree with your assessment of this guy. I am not the only one on this board that has had a run in with him, but others had issues such as pricing and mismarking.Personally, I don't want to give him another dime. I can do without his booze. Nothing that I can't live without.I know the store you speak of on the OCPR. He won't sell any PVW to anyone that I know either.Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
OscarV
You should also contact the Liquor Control Commission, if he hears from them then he'll get a good scare.
