Just saw it on the shelves for the first time this year. $89.99 for the 15 year. The 15 year was $59.99 at the same store last year. The 10 yr and 12 yr are up $10 each. Part of the chase was that it was great whiskey at a decent price. That's gone.

So...it's no longer S-W juice AND it's $30 more? Pass.

Haven't seen any BTAC on the shelves here this year, hopefully those do not come with $30 per bottle increases as well.

I'll pass also at that price. For me the whisky is simply not three times better than Four Roses Small Batch or any number of premium whiskies I can get for around $30 a bottle.

Uh, what? You need to pick that up. $90 is a perfectly reasonable price for the 15yr. I'm getting quoted left and write by stores in NYC for the 10/107 at $100!

I'd pass as well.

I've gone through 5 bottles of the 15yr over the past 2-3 years. Each one cost me no more than $55. It's damn good bourbon... for $55. But it's really not worth $90. I'm not sure ANY bourbon is truly worth $90. And yes, I've had PVW20. I did in fact pay about $100 for it and it was great stuff. But really, it just wasn't worth $100. It's bourbon people. Plenty of GREAT stuff out there for less than $50.

But those price increases are good, don'cha'know? Raising prices means more will be available. It's simple economics, or so I'm told.

I've had a pour or two at a whiskey bar, but have never seen a bottle on the shelf. I would almost certainly have bought that bottle knowing full well that I was getting gouged.

$10 over MSRP (+12.5%) is not price gouging! Haven't any of you ever bought a dram at a bar (+200%) or a beer at a football stadium (+500%)? That is price gouging.

I don't think the retailer is gouging, they are a good store with good prices. But the price is up 50% from last year, which is disappointing. I am sure they will sell them all quickly and I am not mad at anyone, just disappointed at the huge bump in price.

For perspective, the price on a 15 and 107 purchase from a certain retailer just last spring.

Wait a second ... what is this mysterious "Pricing Method 2" that they gave you?! I'm calling shenanigans, you can't expect below MSRP prices going forward.

Maybe your dollars just aren't worth what they once were?

Obviously I should have invested in Van Winkle bourbon futures.

It may not be gouging, but a 50% increase over last year is more than enough for me to pass on. Shouldn't supplies be easing now that they have BT juice in the pipeline?

Like squire said, I can (and will) buy a lot of good bourbon for $90. And I can buy it year 'round.

Plus, I have yet to see any rye, which is the only one i would pay dearly for.

Not really. Even with increased BT supply, we are dealing with:

1) Greater number of orders from restaurants and liquor stores

2) Demand/Supply gap of whiskey (all kinds) worldwide

3) Increasing commodity prices (corn, wheat, etc)

4) General inflation of the US dollar as the MSRP for Winkle has not increased for a couple of years

It was a rhetorical question, but the answer is pretty simple: demand. Despite what producers might tell you, I don't think commodity price fluctuations really have much effect on a product that was distilled 15 or more years ago. And inflation would account for only about $2 over 2011.

Hey, I'm sure they won't have any problem moving the stock. Obviously they've been underpriced for several years given actual demand.

I have the VW SRPs listed as:

15 - $80.

20 - $130.

23 - $250.

Rye - $70.

Lot B - $55.

10/107 - $40.

I'm thinking I saw that info here or maybe the VW Facebook page.

Either way, as others have mentioned, a ten buck mark-up isn't

that extreme, especially when you consider old ebay asking prices.

I didn't know we were judging retail prices based on ebay prices now. If Stagg comes out at a $100 per bottle MSRP this fall then I guess no one has a right to say anything about it.

Guys I've been drinking Van Winkle whiskies for more than 25 years now. I would list the prices we paid years ago but the memory is too depressing.

Wouldn't last an hour on the shelves out here at $90 hah. I've actually seen some in the wild this year but nothing under $120 for the 15.
