tanstaafl2
Picked up a bottle of the standard Bulleit Bourbon in anticipation of Tom Bulleit's appearance in town next week. Couldn't quite pull the trigger on the 10yo even though it is running about $40 locally. Might also be fun to compare it to the new 10yo if I happen to come across somebody with a bottle of that in the next few days! The rest of my purchases were a selection of mid range Irish whiskeys for the impending holiday (Black Bush, Tullamore Dew 12yo and The Irishman Single Malt). tanstaafl2
Oh damn, almost forgot my national holiday is nearly upon us. I really like Tullamore Dew (in the 'value' brand level --- better than Jameson)... how does the 12yr stack up against the standard issue?

BFerguson
Started the day walking down the driveway and meeting the man in brown walking up to the house with my two Hirsch 25yr ryes. That was a very good way to start the day. Made me smile the rest of the day.B

JPBoston
The 12 is bolder, richer, rounder and of course older. Will have to depend on Squire's judgement as I have not had it before. It has been a while since I had the standard expression as well. I got it because several people had noted it was as he described, a significant step up for not a big price jump, and it included single pot still whiskey in the blend with single malt and grain whiskies. Thought it would be a good comparison to The Irishman 70 which is less expensive and younger but only has pot still and single malt without the grain. Probably won't crack it open until closer to the holiday. Thanks guys --- Good to know that the Tullamore 12 is a legit upgrade to the standard issue. Maybe I'll give it a shot for this coming holiday.

jtexaslonestar
Finally bought (and tried:cool:) my first FRSmB standard bottling. I have read many posts about this bottle and I have to agree with the many that are in favor of this bottle. I am definitely going to keep one open in my cabinet and one ready to be opened behind it! I can't wait to pick up an LE addition and try the higher proof!

Each year Jim Rutledge chooses a few recipes to "marry" together and makes that the year's LE Small Batch, and I think it varies from year to year. So the difference between the regular SmB and the LESmB would be much more than just the proof.

The standard small batch is always a mix of OBSO, OBSK, OESK and OESO according to the Four Roses web site.
jtexaslonestar
http:// http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?13638-Four-Roses-10-Recipes/page3Many, many Four Roses answers here ^ and the 4R website is a good source too. They explain it well.Sorry, I will call myself out on irresponsible posting:lol:I didn't mean it was just bottled at higher proof, I guess I was just excited how good it was and that I know where to get some 2012 LE. Either way I was excited that I gave the SmB a shot.
