sku
I'm looking for some info. on Old Weller Original. Does anyone know the answers to these questions:1. When did the Old Weller Original brand first come out?2. When was the name changed to Old Weller Antique? Thanks!
BradleyC
I have been curious of the same. Thanks for asking this. I don't have the answer but can help narrow it down.1. Pre 1972. I have what I believe to be an early bottling of this. It's pre '72 but I can't date it beyond that.2. I have a bottle from '84 that does not say Antique on it and a bottle from '91 that does. So somewhere between 1985-1990 is my estimate. Edited January 18, 2013 by BradleyC
p_elliott
I learned the hard way and looked dumb in the process that the 375ml bottles still say Old Weller The Original on them instead of Old Weller Antique.

PaulO
I didn't know they even had a 375ml bottle of Weller. I've only seen 750ml, 1L, and 1.75L.
squire
Used to sell it in pint bottles as well but that was awhile ago.
HP12
A storied brand that has helped define the world of wheaters. Would enjoy understanding more history on this one. Thx SKU.
BradleyC
I was looking at some OWA bottles for info to help with the original question. I noticed there are nuances between the labels over the years. I lined up OWA from 5 different decades to show the differences. pre 1972 Old Weller Original 107 Barrel Proof (corked bottle with the foil topper. 4/5) 1984 Old Weller the Original 107 Proof (screw cap, tax strip, 750ml, 88508 barcode) 1992 Old Weller Antique Original 107 Brand (88076, Louisville, screw cap w/no safety seal) 2002 Old Weller Antique Original 107 Brand (no space for the bottle number and Frankfort vs L'ville) 2012 Old Weller Antique Original 107 Brand (new clear label) I previously mentioned I had a '91 bottle when it fact it was a '92. I wonder if they added "antique" in 1992? Does anyone have a 1991 bottle to see what it says?
sku
I've since found out that the brand has been around forever, but according to Mike Veach, the 107 proof version started in around the 1950s. From what I've seen, it seems like the "Antique" was added around the time the distillery was closed in '92.

mosugoji64
As a Weller fan, that is a gorgeous image. Having something like that in my house would be a constant source of conflict - drink it, or preserve the history? I'll just save your photo and gaze at it lovingly.
