michaelturtle1
Looks like the 2013 BTEC has arrived, 1st bottle is 15 yrs 9 mos, 90 proof and is Rye mash #2 aged in barrels with a #7 char. 2nd bottle is 16 yrs 8 mos, 90 proof and is Rye mash #2 aged in barrels that were hot box treated and #4 char. Should be really interesting to see how a #7 char effects the taste. The #7 bottle is actually a lighter color than the hot box treated bottle, which I did not expect
silverfish
DrinkHacker reviews:Hot Box Toasted Barrel Bourbon"An exceedingly strange, but ultimately harmless whiskey. B-"#7 Heavy Char Bourbon"...this is a wildly intense Bourbon, but if you can push past all the wood you’ll find some intriguing dark chocolate notes buried inside. That said, it’s not an easy thing to do. B-" Edited February 22, 2013 by silverfish fixed typo
zillah
The hot box toasted barrel sounds interesting. Shame its aged for so long and doesn't show anything for it. If it was cheaper I would give it a go. The heavy char sounds nasty, however.

squire
Seven is possible but makes for a fragile barrel.

Balcones Winston
Seven is possible but makes for a fragile barrel. That was my first thought as well. There comes a point and time when you've reduced the integrity of the staves so much that you'll be prone to leakage or even destruction of the cask.
