squire
Well, it's official. The local I've traded with for a year now will no longer be carrying Barton. The owner has turned over management to his son who wants to take the place more upscale and as a brand Barton Bourbon simply doesn't meet his expectations.I wish them well. MyOldKyDram
Can they order you the occasional case? Or do you have someplace new already lined up?
squire
Always have a plan 'B' Sean.
MauiSon
Just as well, if he's going upscale, then his prices likely will follow. At least you have a plan B, on my island the only Barton's I've seen is 1792.

Does the son have any idea how many Bartons' worth of Barton you purchase?? This guy would come out ahead if he'd get a rectifier's license, buy a few cases of really fancy bottles with custom labels branded for his store, dumped VOB into them and then doubled the selling price. (Or even better, see if his distributor could get him Barton bottled in fancy custom house-brand bottles. I'll bet they'd do it to move juice.) squire
I think it's a common mistake for people who inherit a business to try and impose their will on the customers.
SFS
Too often true, Squire. But on the serious side, do you think he would order the odd case for you now and again? Especially if it meant keeping your business?Or are you like me, you don't suffer fools gladly?
squire
He would but I don't believe in rewarding bad behavior.
JPBoston
Sorry to hear, Squire... but glad you have a plan B all lined up. I still need to get Total Wine to carry it out here.
