Weller in Ohio or Michigan

Does anyone know if you can buy Weller 12 yr in Ohio? I read a lot of you praising this stuff, but I cannot remember seeing this on the shelves. I checked the State's website, and they only list Weller Reserve in my NE Ohio. Again I have never seen that on the shelves either. I am starting to learn that the state's search tool can get your hopes up!:hot:

Also, I was thinking of ordering a bottle online, but I have an upcoming trip to Canada via the Detroit area. Does anyone know if you can get Weller 12 in Michigan? That would save me the shipping costs.

Weller 12yo is not available in MI but don't fret cuz it ain't worth it.

A wheater should not be watered down below 100 proof like the Weller 12 is.

Thank you, Oscar, for your honesty. I don't get what all the hoopla is about. It's the most non-bourbon bourbon I've ever tasted. I'd recommend OWA or WSR over W12.

Yeah, the Weller 12 stuff is just awful. Basically without any flavor. Horribly, horribly disgusting stuff. Don't bother with it. If you ever in a neighboring state like, I dont know, like Illinois for example, you should just leave it on the shelf.

I really don't like it though. There is flavor, just more akin to Scotch rather than bourbon (to me.)

Seriously, I don't even understand how anyone can stomach it. Thankfully it's not that easy to find here in Mass, so I am not fouled by it's presence when looking for real bourbon!

I like Weller 12, but it's not available in Michigan. It is available in Indiana though, if that's any help at all.

You have to buy a Weller 12 - AND an OWA 107. I like OWA 107 better, but varying blends of those two (I personally like 60% OWA, 40% Weller 12) are honestly better than either by themselves, IMHO. I've tried different blends, and this is one of the few I've found where the result was really greater than the sum of its parts.

That's why most of my bourbon purchases are made outside of Ohio. I buy my OWA and Weller 12 in KY. And the AAA. And the VOB. In AZ, Blanton's was 39.99 vs. $55 in OH. So I got two.

Looks like I just need to stop by your house in Toledo when I am there visiting my folks. Do you take credit cards:lol:

Frankly, I get my Weller 107 Antique shipped in from KY. There is a store with a selection of single barrel 107's that are outstanding. Did you know the Old Weller Antique 107 is the same mash bill as Pappy Van Winkle and same distillation? Makes you think. . .

Weller SR occassionally shows up on the shelves around here, but because it is considered a special order item, it is seriously overpriced!

As I mentioned in another thread, after carefully considering all the advice, I finally made my purchase. I decided to broaden my tasting scope and picked up a bottle Weller 12, Ritt 100 BIB and VOB 100. All of which I cannot find in Ohio.

It is difficult waiting for the UPS man to bring that box. Now my next dilemma...which to try first? I guess that is a good problem to have. Thanks again for the advice. I will post my thoughts in the Tasting section later.
