1 year till prohibition, what would you stockpile?

I recently started reading Daniel Okrent's book on prohibition 'Last Call' and the question of what I would do if I knew in a year that the sale/manufacturing of alcohol would be illegal popped in my head. I know some of us bunker for various reason; fear of price change, dropped age statement, lowered proof or just because it's damn good hooch. But what if you knew a year from now it would all be gone(scary thought), what would bunker? Would you stockpile your favorite brands or get as much variety as possible?

For me personally I would get my hands on as much OWA, Weller 12, ETL, and Ritt BIB as I could afford.

I would drive straight to the store I found that had a few cases of Age stated WSR handles and buy them all, then I would buy every HW Rendezvous I could find...If I were in a dream world I would buy cases of Lot B and HW 16... Though I think it would take a couple decades of prohibition before I had to worry about buying another bottle

I'm with Hectic, by the barrel is the way to go.

Plus, there would be somethign uniquely satisfying to see the cases stacked on a pallet, or two, in my basement.

As many cases of Rittenhouse and BT as I can buy. The 2 staples of my bar, amazing value, and the best-of-breed for the all important "under $30/bottle" price point. Done and done.

I'd stockpile for variety, but also trying to maximize volume - so I'd focus on getting cases of EWB, AAA, OFS, and Ritt BIB - but also buying every BTAC I bumped into. I want to say Bookers . . . but honestly, if I have to plan for maybe eternity . . . I'm a young man still, so 3 or 4 bottles of AAA for every bottle of Bookers would make it tough.

Jim Beam Black. Tastes good to me neat, on the rocks, with a splash of water, and in cocktails. Reasonably priced. It would feel good to see two pallets in the basement if there was some kind of liquor apocalypse. I know it isn't the most popular on this board, but dammit, I like it. :grin:

Let's be realistic, everyone would get cases of the BTAC or PHC collections, but they are not available.

Load up on handles of EWB, clean the shelves out of FRYL and VOB BIB, pick up some HW Double Rye, and spend the remainder of cash on Glenmorangie 10 and Johnny Black.

It depends, will they still have some brands available as 'medicinal' whiskey? I'm grabbing all of the Four Roses and BIB brands that I can find.

Oh, and a case of Maker's Mark. Not because I want to drink it, but because it will be great fun to lord it over the die-hard MM drinkers.

I am joining in the Four Roses club.

Going to get several barrels of each recipe. Then have Jim Rutledge pick me some cherry barrels for special occasions in the single barrel version and have him mix me up some premium small batch as well.
