MarkB
I just recieved an email from Samswines about a single barrel Black Maple Hill 14 and 16yr, sold for $39 and $49 respectively.Never heard of the stuff (which isn't saying much). Anyone have any comments about it?
robbyvirus
This stuff disappeared from the shelves out here in California last winter, but I've just noticed that it's now back. I've seen both the 14 and 16 yo versions (at prices about $10 higher than you quote). I bought some of the 16yo last year and it was excellent...quite rich, full-bodied, smooth and tasty!! According to these boards it's Julian Van Winkle's whiskey, bottled under a private label. They also have a 15 yo Rye, which is also quite excellent. jvanwinkle
Since my joint venture with BT, I know longer will be doing these "Non Van Winkle" bottlings such as Black Maple Hill.Any label that has a Lawrenceburg address on it will be my whiskey.A Bardstown address means that it was bottled by Evan. I'm not sure what the whiskey is now.Julian

I was wondering about this quite recently, especially since the auction when he said that the Twisted Spoke was no longer being made. Guess I should hang onto some of these non-Van Winkle bottlings a little while longer, then drink them (sharing with friends, of course) when they are a little more precious.
