I went into NY yesterday and stopped in at the 5 Napkin Burger in Hell's Kitchen, and what's sitting on the shelf but a bottle of A.H. Hirsch Reserve 16yo! All I can say is that it's an amazing bourbon! I finished what was left in the bottle (about 6oz.). Now I just might pay that top dollar for that bottle that's sitting at my local store! It's funny because I just read Chuck's great book on Sunday!

I had dinner there with a couple of buddies last week after work. Perhaps I should have looked at the bar instead of ordering a beer...Nice score.

I have noticed it on a couple menus in the city. I enjoyed a pour of it at Gramercy Tavern last month it was a decent pour but not worth the $40.00 I had to shell out to try it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I stopped in at Five Napkin last night on my way home. I decided to ask if they had any more Hirsch just in case they had a 2nd bottle.

The bartender laughed, and said "No. We actually just ran out of that last week. It's one of the rarest bourbons in the world. Some guy came in and drank half the bottle and then took the bottle home with him. He was excited we had it, and was a real expert. He knew literally everything about it."

So you've impressed/left an impression on the Five Napkin bartenders!

Amusing... I lived next to that 5 napkin for a year... never looked hard enough at the bar. Lucky man!

Don't be such a sourpuss, Rockefeller. I'm sure we could find a whisky that would lift your cultural requirements for where you drink.

How much was 5 Napkin charging, out of curiosity?

The Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans has plenty of AHH16 to sell at their two bars. It'll cost you $125/pour though ($25 more than Macallan 30). Funny enough, I was steadily drinking Restaurant August across the street out of their supply over the last few months at $16/pour.

Trey, They were charging $37 for a 2oz. pour. Hey Rockefeller I was going to the Rangers game that night and I heard they had a good bourbon selection, so that's where I stopped in for pre-game drinking. Sorry it doesn't meet your bourbon drinking standards.

The last Hirsch 16 I saw was about a year and a half ago, and was $229 at a big box liquor store.

No, I didn't buy it, and it ain't there anymore.
