What to try next After EC12 and others in Michigan

Ok so Ive been through a few bottles now and have definitely found some good one. I started with some Beam, didn't really like it, but since developing my palate a bit and now being able to drink neat and without water its ok enough. I definitely get more flavors out of it them before when it just tasted like drinking gasoline.

I've been through nearly 2 bottles of EC12 now and I really like it. For the price and what you get it seems hard to beat.

I also had a special single barrel select bottle of Buffalo Trace from a place here red wagon wine. That was really good and I should have bought more when I had the chance because its not gone, sadly.

I had a pint of Eagle Rare 10 year and it was good, albeit drier than the EC12 or the BT I would say.

I've also tried some Rye trying to find some spicy notes, which I like. I've been through a bottle of Bulleit Rye and I just got a bottle of Templeton Rye last night. Both good, but I think the Templeton is better...

So with all that said what should I try next. I think I like to fuller body of the bourbon vs the rye most of the time, though I haven't had enough rye yet to say that for sure. I like the sweet caramel notes and oak but i'd like a spicy kick at the end too. Or something completely different could be interesting too.

I was trying go get my hands on a bottle of the EC12 Barrel Proof but I think its basically sold out everywhere here by now.

Also Id love to get my hands on another single barrel bottling of Buffalo Trace, but I don't know anywhere else thats done that in the area. They do have half gallons of it left but for me thats a lot of money to plunk down on a bottle at one time, though its not any more money per quantity, just more up front.

Aside from that anything interesting I could take a look at on the say under 40 dollar range?

for those newer to bourbon, i always suggest weller 12, ETL, and the general OBSV 4 roses single barrel, and you have craig 12 covered. also try ritt BIB as far as ryes, it's more substantial that templeton.

Damn near impossible IMO.

GS at Lincoln and Woodward has their own selections of EW Single Barrel and Buffalo Trace. It looks like a typical lottery ticket and brown bag booze place, but the owner is a whiskey guy and has been working hard to cater to whiskey people.

Excellent advice. Weller 12 is not available in Michigan, but the others all are. A good substitute would be Old Weller Antique 107. Four Roses Single Barrel or Small Batch are both good places to go from there. Ritt BiB is fairly easy to find now. You might want to pick up some Russell's Reserve Rye soon if you like ryes. The state minimum is going up by $6 at the end of the month.

Thanks and on the Ritt cheaper than Templeton too awesome. ETL was on the list for sure then I got sidetracked with the Templeton and searching for the EC12 Barrel Proof.

Yeah so far my favorite is the EC12 and that Buffalo Trace I had. I should try a bottle of regular BT, but I'm not sure it will be the same, I've heard there can be quite a difference from a single barrel bottling and a regular one. Not that it would be bad or anything, just different maybe. I will definitely have the check out GS and see what he has, thats what I was looking for. Will definitely have to grab some more of the BT and hope its as good if not better then the Red Wagon stuff.

Its not that I like Ryes or not but I've been trying them to see what I like. Ive only had one, the Bulleit so I can't really say one way or another yet.

great suggestions, might want to try OGD 114 and if you like the EC12, EWSB is a similar flavor profile

Hard to beat what Josh and omgmarclol have suggested. Four roses was the brand that gave me my first ah-ha moment, so I believe it's important in learning. Weller 12 is a good wheater. Toss in a nice rye and you'll have some fun going from one to the other and comparing. I know I do

I hit that GS marker and was in single barrel heaven. They had the EW single, only pints left of the BT and even EC12 single barrels. I asked about the barrel proof even and he actually had a bottle but I had to pass on it, I wasn't willing to pay 50 for it after I had already spent 40 on the Templeton, even though I thought hard about it.

I eventually left with a bottle of the EW Single barrel because he said it was much spicier and had more of a punch then the mellow EC12 and that was exactly what I was looking for. It is and it does, though not as sweet up front as the EC12, very tasty stuff though I must say and a steal at the 30 bucks I paid for it. I think I got a new favorite place.

I definitely need to try the FRSB so maybe Ill give that a go next payday. I try to limit myself to a bottle or two per pay period.
