Just finished my second bottle of Eagle Rare 17 from the 2012 bottling. Before I throw the bottle away I have to ask - does anyone care? The shape is not unique but the label is rare.

Yes this is a highly collectible label. Soak the bottle in water for a few hours, then carefully peel the label off. Put the label in a safe deposit box and wait.

"The value of the item is in the collectible container, not its contents."

Below are lyrics to a traditional American folk song. It sums up my thoughts on bottle values on current releases but I could be wrong. I saw an EMPTY 1792 (current Barton label) bottle for $30 on Ebay. I didn't pay that for a full one! "Moonshiner" by Uncle Tupelo. "When the bottle gets empty, Lord it sure ain't worth a damn."

When I was a newbie, I saved either some labels or empty bottles. I quickly realized saving empty bottles made it look like I drink too much.

The only thing it will collect is dust.

I came across a "collectable" empty BT bottle on ebay. Also empty Blanton's bags. (These are for real, not the "wink, wink" collectable bottles now forbidden on the site.) Somebody will buy it. Somebody always buys it.

I like to keep empty bottles that formerly housed some of my favorite whiskey around to use if I ever need to decant from a bottles whose cork has exploded into it, for example. Old dusty decanters can make nice shelf decorations. Some people collect Beam decanters, but I wouldn't count on selling your ER17 bottle for more than its recyclable worth.

Do you just mean that it says "Spring" instead of "Fall?"

Fill it with Benchmark and serve to friends you don't like very much.

Or friends that like bourbon and coke or bourbon and ginger ale. Make them a little stronger than normal and they will like the drink.

If the label is already off, you can always use the back of it for a grocery list.

I did the same thing until the "collection" started encroaching on the wife's area of the shelves.

Ok, nuf said. It was a dumb idea. The bottle goes in the recycling bin.

Anything can be collected. That doesn't mean anyone else will pay anything for it, though.

Yep,the bottle is not worth anything really unless you have some sentiment towards it.I do recall a thread where in which someone made refrigerator magnets out of the lids after the corks were removed, which was kind of a novel idea I think.

someone had a cool idea of cutting the majority of the bottle off, and make a tumbler out of the bottom. That's what I plan on doing when mine goes dry...
