So, I've been reading here, and elsewhere, about this one, and it's intriguing. Sounds very good.

What is your opinion of the current bottling of the 12 y.o.?

Yes Barrel proof. I wasn't sure about which you were asking. Regular EC12 is nice on a single cube and has a larger flavor profile than something like 1792. At least I think so.

For $23 I feel I can't go wrong with a bottle of EC12.

12 year whiskey for that price is a great value.

Michter's 10 year is $80 for f&@k sake.

Just got a fun email from Heaven Hill. They are sending out free stick-on labels for EC12 if you are a part of the Bardstown Whiskey Society. They fit right over the existing label of your bottle of EC12 and they allow you to have three lines of custom print. I put "2013 Deer Season, For the Enjoyment of, B. Gross" I hunt with my uncle Bernie, my dad Bruce, and I am Brett. We all enjoy EC12 very much. I sent a 1.75 of it to my dad for his birthday. I can't wait to be telling tall tales at our deer shack during opener and then pull out the custom label bottle after our first day out. This extra effort by Heaven Hill makes me feel really good about sending my money their way.

Try both and see which you like. Bourbon is very subjective. I for one and many others love the ECBP which I just purchased and started drinking it right away.

Prior to this ECBP, I had the EC18 many years ago and it was good. I actually would not have try the EC12 but from all the discussion on the ECBP, I had to try it and it is wowing me!

You can probably find tasting notes here and see if you would like it base on what people have experienced. I do that often on things I have not try, reading people's tasting notes.

All that and it's pretty good too. I think so anyways. One of my favorites and I always have some on hand.

I had a glass of EC12 today. It's a nice bourbon. A little added oak to the usual HH profile. I have yet to try ECBP.

The best way to drink EC12 is by the glassful on a certain porch in Kentucky.

I think it's well worth the price and another bottling with a very low barrier to trying it out.

I enjoy EC12 from time to time when I have a taste for a sweet bourbon and at around $25 for 12yr juice it's a good bargain as well.

As I and others have mentioned in other threads there is quite a bit of variations between bottles, but I haven't had a bad one. I've enjoyed the few bottles of it that I've had, but one was just exceptional where everything came together in a great balance, perfect wood, spice, etc.

As for the BP, I'm still trying to figure it out. I tend to eat and drink very seasonally for whatever reason the flavors brought out by the higher proof seem like something I'll enjoy more when colder weather swings back around. It's good stuff though and enjoying it as full proof is a nice throttle for doing any sort of contemplation.

That said, hell its at most $25 to try. A great gateway to more aged bourbons.

It sells for around $28 - 29.00 here. It seems prices in FL are just a bit higher than most other places.

If you can get it for $23 you can't go wrong...$31.99 here. The Party Source price on their sold out unchill filtered was $25.99 and that was some good whiskey.

As to Alden's original question, historically EC 12 is probably the most polarizing major brand of bourbon in terms of like or dislike. The dislikes often describe a metallic taste. I get a bit of a mediciney-band aid smell, not so much on taste, that I chalk up to HH house style along with the delicious ripe stone fruit also part of the HH house style.

I would echo the general consensus and also affirm this side-note. There is (what I would describe as) an astringency to EC12 that is very controversial, but personally I like it just fine. Overall, excellent quality and distinctive flavor for about $25-$28, IMHO.

Agreed. I've only purchased one bottle myself, so I'm far from an expert, but I remember an astringent/bitter finish that improved after the bottle had been opened for a few weeks.

That said, it had a very cool chocolate hint that I miss and keep meaning to come back to.

I think the current bottling taste a lot like some EW 10 year which I can still pick up at about $14 a bottle so I will stick to it. I have several bottles of EC12 from 1986 that I think has a very different taste profile from the current stuff which I prefer.

EC 12 was one of the first bourbons I encountered when I rediscovered bourbon a decade and a half ago. I have not found any of the eponymous (B_P) bottling, however, so am hoping someone in Bardstown next week will share!

For a number of years there was a store in my area that sold EC12 for 16.99. I bought it for years and then just started to take it for granted. Then one day it was 25.99.
