I bought a bottle a month ago and finally got around to tasting it with my dad. Considering I bought it purely for the novelty value, it's really quite a decent bourbon. To me, it is sometimes sweet (as you would expect), but sometimes dry. Sometimes it seems like it starts out dry, and then turns sweet in the mouth, depending on how long you hold it in your mouth. Maybe my palate is having an off night? I wouldn't buy it again for the $35 I paid, but I might buy another once in a while at $20-25. I'll leave you with a couple pics.

I was also initially surprised by the color difference, but if you consider that we're comparing something 4 years old to something closer to 6, that's almost a 50% difference. Still, I'd like to point out again that the JR Ewing bourbon is really a decent pour, if you put the $35 figure out of your head. I'd like to try more MGPI whiskeys, but not at NDP prices.

Locally it is $49, it's a NDP, and it's 80 proof. Oh and there are plenty of bottles sitting on the shelf.

The store I work at had a liquor "reset" today. Basically they moved everything around to confuse customers. And also took out some products and put a few new ones in. I was disappointed to see that this made it into the new set. :(

$49 - Strike 1

NDP - Strike 2

80 proof - Strike 3

And JR Ewing bourbon strikes out!

I've heard that the 80 proof Barney Fife Bourbon is a little "thin". :slappin:

Not thin...... those Fife's are wiry!

While traveling for work last summer, I stopped in a liquor store. Upon entering, I noticed an ECBP sitting on the top shelf (not behind the counter). Unfortunately, someone was standing in front of it checking out a bottle of J.R. Ewing Bourbon. He had the bottle in his hand and then briefly glanced up at the ECBP before deciding to buy the J.R. Ewing. Something can be said for a pretty bottle and catchy name. I quickly swooped in and grabbed the ECBP before someone else came over to look at another bottle of J.R. Ewing.

Awesome! That may be the only good thing about JR Ewing.
