I've decided to give up on my search to find any 4RSmB 2012. Seems no one in Phoenix can get it. %#$@%@#$^!@#!@$

But....one place has 3 bottles of the 2011 4RSB. They want approx $85 for them and every review I've seen of the stuff just kills it. Seems to be one of the least liked of the 4 Roses LE's. What does SB think of it? I like 4RSB and love, absolutely love, the regular 4RSmB (Also a fan of Baker's, OGD 114, WTRB, VWLotB, Weller 12 and PVW 20).

I have both (in fact they are the only 2 of the LE's that I have) and have sampled several others. I definitely don't like the 2011 SB LE as much as the 2012 SmB LE. But obviously I don't have the breadth of experience some here have with the various FR LE's.

I'm not a fan of the 2011 or 2010 SmB LEs. I found both thin, hot, and astringent. 2008/2009 Mariage and 2012 SmB LE are the gems of the series.

If it doesn't have a date on it then it's not a "Limited Edition"

Plus the limited editions say limited like everywhere, along with the date, and don't have a paper label.

Pictures might help. Don't have a standard paper Yellow Label bottle handy but the limited editions currently look like this, without any paper label. Unless they decide to change things unexpectedly.

i was pouring '11 and '12 back to back last night. i like '11, i think it's a bit under appreciated. it has a more "exotic," for lack of better terms (i get more dark chocolate and almonds), than the previous releases and subsequent '12 release.

The only thing I would add in regards to the LESB discussion is that besides barrel selection and a bit more age, there is not a whole lot separating the LESB 2011 and many private selection barrels from major retailers. Especially with the Q strain of yeast which is pretty unique compared to other stuff on the bourbon market, it might be a good idea to buy a private selection barrel ($50-55) from TPS or someone else in order to test whether that sits well on your palette. Then, you might be in a better position to know whether or not plunking down $85 a pop is worth it to you

I love the 2012 SmB as well as everyone else; it is awesome. I also agree that the 2011 SmB was pretty disappointing: tasted like higher strength non-limited SmB. I may be odd, but the 2011 SB LE is one of my favorites as I really love the nose that the Q yeast brings to it. It is not as classic as the K yeast (more floral and strange), but it is unique and I sort of like novelty once in a while among a sea of spices, caramel and vanilla. Agree with bourbonandbacon, though, that you may want to try it first, as what is pleasantly novel to me may just be strange to you.
