Alden
Is it still any good? I heard it was not bad, not bad at all. I'm bottom shelf shopping now. Low on funds. Is it just a mixer?
HighInTheMtns
Whatever Old Crow was in those days has no relation to the three year old swill that Jim Beam fills its bottles with these days. Pass. Your money can be far better spent.

HighInTheMtns
It's really a shame that a brand with so much history has been relegated to what it is now. Ulysses Grant was another Old Crow drinker.
PaulO
Old Crow was a top shelf brand years ago.
emr454
For the same price range I'd go with Evan Williams black or BIB if available. Got some EW BIB in Georgia for $10 a couple years ago and it was a steal for that price. Eric

squire
Due to Beams pricing policy their 3 year old basic Bourbons (Crow, Taylor) cost about as much as Evan Williams black label which is twice as old and carefully blended to a well tested formula. Accordingly, EWB is my entry level Bourbon brand.
TheNovaMan
I'm a little late, but this is right in my wheelhouse. If FL doesn't get Ten High straight (not the blend), see if you can get some Ezra Brooks black label 90 proof - it's almost as good as EWB. Old Croak isn't worth the lint in the bottom of your pocket.

Great stuff, but they've said it just doesn't move so they don't order it.Its crazy to me that all the people who pick up a bottle of EW black every week never look down the shelf, see the same brand with nearly 20 more proof points for very little more $ and at least try it. Seems around here though, they don't.
squire
Around here they don't either. According to our merchants EW BIB doesn't move very well and I suspect it's because Evan Williams black label has the right combination of price/quality and a couple dollars more isn't justified for the non enthusiast buyer. That and one doesn't wish the family to think they're too fond of drink because they buy the stronger stuff.
MauiSon
Not really on point, but as I was browsing today, someone asked me to hand them a bottle of WT101. I said 'good choice' and he replied he really likes the 81 better - less bite. I said 'you're allowed to water this down to taste, you know'. JPBoston
Enjoying the EWB love. It's my "entry level" brand as well, and haven't seen much love for it lately. Too many fancy special release discussions going on lately. Really wish my stores would get the Bonded variation as well. We only have the Black Label and SB. Just shows that what is obvious to you is not clear to everyone else.
Sasquatch
If you happen upon any 80's Old Crow or earlier, I suggest you get it. The ND product I've had, while I wouldn't put it above it's OGD and Col. Taylor brethren, is still quite good. The modern expression is to be avoided, by all means. I'm paraphrasing, but I believe bourbonv once said, "Beam should be put on trial for what they did to Old Crow".
