chasking
Hey gang, I can't remember when it was that BT acquired the Weller brands. Do all the current Weller products on the shelves contain BT whiskey, or are some of them still Bernheim?I'm doing a tasting for some friends, and the theme will be exploring the major bourbon producers and their different mashbills---I want to make sure that if I give them an example of distiller X mashbill Y (e.g., BT's wheat bourbon), the whiskey in the bottle is indeed from there! Thanks in advance! Old Dusty
One easy way to tell is NAS on the OWA and WSRs. If the neck label has the proof and not the age you have BT juice for sure. Most likely anything you find currently will be BT anyway. And IIRC BT changed the bottle shape from the squared edges to the bulb/round type. Was trying to find the 2012 distilled date but no luck. But 2010 and 2011 both were distilled in 1998 and earlier ones were, well, earlier! Does that make it Bernheim whiskey or is it all BT whiskey? They could be BT, Bernheim or a combination thereof.

But as you say we don't really know for sure. Which is kind of annoying. Good thing it tastes good I suppose!

Good thing it tastes good I suppose!Keep in mind that with the exception of BIBs and where someone from the distillery has made a definitive statement, we almost never know for sure. Distilleries are free to use whiskey from other distilleries or blend them with their own without any change to the label unless they are using straight whiskeys from more than one state (which makes it a "blend of straight whiskeys"). We assume that BT is made at BT, Wild Turkey is made at WT, etc., but I've heard more than once that a certain amount of internal swapping goes on in the industry that isn't disclosed. jburlowski
We know that the the AA distillery (now BT) was making wheated bourbon (for Old Fitz) at least as far back as 1991. So it could all be "local" distillate.
