Not that its the most uncommon thing in the world, but seems like they're all over my shops right now. As many of the oddly shaped bottles as they can fit on the shelves.

Does this usually happen with the Birthday Bourbons? I assumed that they did one release of it per year and then it was gone. Large enough to get pushed out by the distributors regularly throughout the year?

Still haven't pulled trigger even though it seems like these guys are waist deep in them. Secretly hoping for a bit of a price drop then getting 2 :)

Funny enough, but I just stopped into one of my local places on Sunday and they had about 6 bottles on OFBB on the shelf. Hadn't seen it there in prior weeks, so you may be right.

I also did not see this type of push in prior years, so maybe it's just a coincidence for 2013?

It's upwards of $60 by me, so I'm still not biting. Haven't seen any great resupply though.

What part of the country are you guys in? And are these different vintages or all 2012 OFBB? And finally what are the prices you're seeing? IMHO if it is over 45 it is a pass, but if it's 35.99 for the '04 or the '10 I'd snag it.

Maybe BF increased production for this year. Ontario got a pretty large shipment a few months ago, and we've never seen it here before.

Definitely not in Kentucky. It was cleared from shelves before christmas in most places. They could send it back here and we could sell it immediately. Im guessing some distributor was sitting on some and made a push to get it out before end of fiscal year.

Here in bourbon country, we are seeing a huge drop off in the supply of limited bourbons (not just PVW and BTAC). The answer is almost always the same "the distillery is sending more out of state due to an increased demand."

Then I see these types of posts.. things that make you go hmmm..

Old Forester. 2010 was a great year.

OK. Was it an anniversary of the "birth" of OF? Like a centennial or something?

Annual limited edition put out by Old Forester celebrating some sort of birthday (forgot which) and it is officially named Birthday Bourbon, usually abbreviated OFBB.

Nah, they release a different one every year.

And they only make like 1,000 bottles of it? So it's better than the regular 100 proof they make?

WTH are "birthday bourbons"?

Old Forester does a special release once a year to celebrate the birthday of Garvin Brown, the founder of Brown-Foreman. It is 12 years old and generally a different mash bill from the regular Old Forester. It also comes in a special bottle. I thought the 2012 was especially good. This is a pretty limited release each year.

It varies quite a bit IMO from year to year. I try to find it when it's marked down. At good sale price I thinks it's a good pour.

I can think of several brands that improve when the price is lowered.

I get your drift.
