Current OWA

I always find it funny on forums, how the first post of the thread sets the tone for the rest of the thread. OWA is easily one of the most beloved bourbons on this site, and yet you would think it was bottom of the barrel (pun intended) if you just read this thread.

In any event, I don't mean to undermine or belittle anyone's opinion on OWA or any other bourbon for that matter. To each his own. And to be perfectly honest, I am so enamored of the SB blend, that I rarely drink OWA or W12 alone anymore. Such a smart mingling, to take the younger, higher proof, more robust bourbon, and mingle it with the older, oakier, lower proof, more mellow bourbon. It just works imho.

I think you are overdramatizing what I said. I never said it was horrible just not as good as it once was and now very one dimensional. I do not think the words horrible came into play. That being said there are too many other bourbons that are better now that I will spend my money on. As long as they make w12 though I will keep buying it.

Just came back from two liquor stores (one attached to Costco and one of the larger Twin Liquors here in Austin) and neither one had any OWA. Both had Weller 12 and Special Reserve.

I'm sure if I drove over to Spec's there would be several bottles, but just an odd observation. Maybe the conspiracy theorists can take it from here.

My tastes rarely align with the masses, so I just need to buy a current bottle of OWA and taste it myself.

No one asked but IMO OWA is the best value in bourbon, NAS or not, the only other bottles even competing for*that title are RITT BIB, EC12 and 114...OWA still wins.*

I sure can't get OWA for $19 though. It is more expensive than Weller 12 down here..$26 for OWA vs. $23 for W12.

+1. OWA one of the last mainstay whiskey's I have not tried, in large part because it usually over $25. When there are other good options for cheap, I am going to be skeptical of that stuff from the beginning.

Comments like these need to be repeated over and over. Mentioning price disparities is tedious, but when those prices have a huge influence on our perception of quality, we need to take them into account when we share opinions. For example, I think Four Roses Yellow is delicious and consistently underrated, but I can get it for around $13 around here for some reason. That definitely affects my opinion of it in a way that somebody who pays $22 cannot not understand - unless I mention it.

I have never been too surprised by any bottle of OWA. This includes the 7 year old, current stuff, and single barrel selections. The fact that it has disappeared from stores at times has caused me to bunker a few extras. If I was to open one now. it may have been purchased a year or two ago. Like many, I was unhappy to see the age statement go. So far, I think the current stuff is good.

my bottle of OWA NAS isn't as good as my OWA 7yr age stated. The age stated bottle is from 2007 though.

I've had my share of OWA over the years, my favorite BT produced iterations are the old label ones. Can still find these all over Dallas, and it's good bourbon for sure.
