I went out to dinner with a cousin recently. At the restaurant bar, I ordered their top shelf, which in this case was Woodford Reserve neat. Of course, my cousin started asking me some questions about ordering this neat and what kind of liquor was this, etc. Next thing I know he is challenging me saying I would not be able to tell the difference between their bourbon types. I bet him the bar tab I would tell the difference easily. I had not even tried the Woodford yet; we called the bartender and ordered their low shelf which was JB White. I went to bath room and he shuffled drinks, and would not let me look at them becasue of the color differences. He handed me the first glass, I took one sniff and told him it was JB White.

I stuck him with the tab, handed him the JB white and ordered myself another Woodford laugh.gif

I was challenged to do it a couple years ago at an Xmas party. There were four boubons between my host and I. I think it was JB white, KC, EWSB, and ORVW 15 yo. Mine was the ORVW. grin.gif As you can see, it wasn't difficult to distinguish among those. I nailed every one. I know this is not a big deal - I knew what the four bourbons were going into the blind test.

W.W.,

You're more a gentleman than I. I would have hemmed and hawed for several minutes, seemingly agonizing over the decision. Only with great hesitation and feigned apprehension would I have announced the correct identification. My goal? Another bet at double or nothing. wink.gif

Yours truly,

Dave Morefield
