My mint is coming up in the garden, time for a couple of Derby Mint Juleps tomorrow! Cracking a bottle of Sam Houston 10yr for mine, what's going in yours?

I think good ole BT, any standard 4r, or Old Forester might do it for me. Barton doesn't sound half bad either.

I've been liberally using a handle of dusty I.W. Harper for mint juleps since I picked it up a couple weeks ago. Will is meet its end soon?

Haven't tried mixing my own yet so I will be drinking Early Times Mint Julep.

All my mint died, so it's off to the grocery store for some more... Will probably use Makers in mine. It'll be about 7am Sunday when the Derby runs, so I might be making mine a bit belatedly :)

Taking a bottle of WR with the Derby label on it to some friends hosting a Derby party. Don't know if they will crack it or keep it. Also taking some standard BT for the back up bottle in case they don't want to open the WR. May try to finish up the last of the BTEC rice bourbon as well. Better as a mixer than a sipper anyway.

Larceny, back up will likely be Weller 107. We're going to be making a few Juleps tomorrow.

None b/c mint juleps are vile.

Your mint died? How did you do that? I planted some more than 20 years ago just for juleps on Derby Day. Decided I don't like juleps but the mint keeps running any way. Even Roundup doesn't wipe it out.

Put me on this team as well. Cheers to those who enjoy, but none for me.

Communists.

I think they're tasty.

Aaron has a great recipe using tequila instead of bourbon and epazote instead of the mint. He said it was killer last year.

I know what you mean. I make a killer Manhattan by subbing beer for the whiskey and Cholula sauce for the bitters.

Bourbon makes for a pretty great Bloody Mary, Comrade.

Can I hit clean up? I don't want mint in my bourbon unless it is one of the honey 4R F yeast single barrels.

Like Mencken, I am partial to rye in my julep. All that ice begs for Ritt BiB or WT 101 rye if on hand.

OGD 114, like the spice to offset the sugar/mint and the higher proof doesn't get as diluted in all that ice.

Never had a mint julep and probably never will. I'm thinking of opening a PHC 2007 to enjoy with the race and latter during the Wings game.

To actually answer the question, I usually use Buffalo Trace. The sweetness and grassiness of it fits together nicely with the mint & sugar.

I'm thinking EWBIB. I like a little rye flavor to offset the sweet and the water.
