Most bourbons have a cork top, but some have a screw cap, Makers Mark being just one.

What is your favorite screw cap bourbon?

At the risk of not adding much to this thread, I would have to say that ORVW 107 is tops for me, followed closely by the SB blend (made from equal parts OWA and Weller12) as a very close second.

I'd also have to go with ORVW as well in terms of what I have in my collection. Apparently Knob Creek Single Barrel converted from cork to screw tops (I hadn't bought one in a while, but while on the tour we noticed them using screw tops). If I had one of those, that might be my favorite - although apparently it will be short lived (tour guide mentioned the "uproar" is leading to them moving back to corks, despite them being more expensive).

The wine side has been interesting with the cork screw top debate. I think there is a place for both in wine, some wines need a cork for long term aging while other wines intended for immediate drinking. Seen people turn their noses up at nice wines because of a screw top. On the spirits side though, I think I would just prefer screw tops all around. There is no aging here and corks can really screw up a bottle. When I put an expensive bottle in the bunker, I'd hate to visit it a couple years from now to find it corked.

VVOF or ORVW15! ...

All of the VOFs and VVOFs I have or have seen, none had screw caps. But I assume you have one! If I had one, it would move up to my favorite screw cap pour.

I agree - I went to a bourbon tasting where some of the offerings were screw tops and others were corks, and they said that they like to use corks for the "premium" stuff because it is expected, and people "like that sound". I thought to myself "@#$% the sound - I want the whiskey to be solid for a LONG time!!" With some of my opened bottles that have corks which I think might take me a few years to drain, I've started putting plastic wrap with a rubber band over the top (with the cork in position) in the hopes to avoid unnecessary evaporation. Never a concern with a screw top - and I've never had a screw top break off and leave me to drain a bottle just to get the pieces out. Beam said they went to screw tops on KCSB for cost reasons, but the "uproar" (which I guess I missed??) is driving them back. Hell - give me a nickle off my price AND a screw top

I become "un-screwed" with this triple play...ORVW 107, OWA and AAA.

ORVW. SB blend is second, but I've always made that as sort of a poor man's ORVW anyway.

In the 70s they switched. I have a 1975 bottled that has the screw cap.

It is not true to say "most bourbons have a cork top." Most bourbons have a screw top, including all of the top sellers. What's true is that virtually all high-end bourbons have corks tops, a practice that does more harm than good. Beam is breaking the pattern with its new Jim Beam Signature Craft series. I commend them.

Thanks for the reminder. Very curious to try both of these.

... and corks can really screw up a bottle.

I beg to differ.

Amongst screw cappers that I've not seen mentioned, I find KBD's pure kentucky XO is often enjoyable (although the wax hiding the screw cap can be a bitch to remove), along with Beam black, EWB, and paper label WSR.

Looking through my shelves thinking about caps reminds me it would be cool to see a bourbon in a grolsch-style bottle, like the Los Danzantes/Los Nahuales mezcals. Wonder if there are any.

I have two fav's with screw tops. Wheater: Old Rip 107; Rye Bourbon: Old Grand Dad BIB. Just between us, I'd like to see screw caps on all of 'em. I don't suppose that'll ever come to pass, however. Way too many elitist fools think the cork lends some air of class. It just lends 'air'..... and cork pieces... and broken corks.

Weller 12..a cork is not needed. Just makes it harder to get open.
