It took me a while to figure this thread out, then it hit me, A lot of you guys must actually be putting the cap / cork back after opening the bottle. I've heard of that, just never seen it.

Cork taint doesn't come from an old cork it comes from a piece of cork used that has bacteria in it. The problem was there from the get go not from bunkering the bottle.

H McK 10 yo BIB would be mine. I'm for screw tops on all spirits, maybe even on wines.

Of the bottles I've had, OGD BIB, OWA 107 and ORVW 107.

There's an old John Wayne movie where he goes into a bar, orders a bottle of whiskey, turns it upside down and smacks the bottom of the bottle hard enough for the cork to pop out. Can't do that with a screw top! Not that you could do that with a corked bottle in real life, but it was still pretty cool.

The last bottle of KC I had still had a cork, but if they are indeed switching over to screw caps, that would be my pick.

Honorable mention to OGD BIB, EWB, Fighting Cock, ORVW, and the Wellers.

Those cork caps make for good magnets, but I just can't abide by them for regular use. Give me a screw cap any time. If they want to make them special, put some sort of embossed logo on them.

Too many for me to pick just one. I have to lump them together in two tiers. Personally, I have a three way tie for Tier#1, and a multi-way tie for Tier #2.

Tier #1. ER 10/101, ORVW 10/107, and Weller 12.

Tier #2. BIB's. HH 6 yr White Label BIB, EW BIB, VOB 100 proof, etc....etc....etc....

IMO OWA and Weller 12 have been far more consistent over the years than ORVW 107 so I am going with those two, although I don't have anything against ORVW 107.

Hey Joe, any chance you'd post the proportions of your Weller blend you had at the sampler? That stuff was delicious.

You better just make this its own thread, Joe.

Corks are just traditional. Not necessary at all.

That being said, Weller 12.

I agree that the ORVW 10/107 tends to be inconsistent, but I'm going to go with HH 6yo BiB instead. It's rich at any price, but it also happens to be dirt cheap, which can't help but attract my further props!

Seconded. It's delicious and the price makes it a steal!

Last night my favorite was AAA. But tonight it was OWA. Tomorrow it's going to be VOB. Those screw caps have such a marvelous nose!

I was tempted to toss that in the mix a day or two ago. Definitely my most expensive screw cap bottle. Too bad the price has jumped up so quickly in the last two years. I had a hard time throwing down $120 for one, now that it is up around $180 I wouldn't even consider it. I really do like the stuff though.
