Age of Old Fitz bottle?

I recently picked up a dusty OF bottle, 100 proof bottled in bond. I'm wondering how I find out the date it was bottled. Any help is appreciated!

I understand I'm a newbie to this forum, but I'm not a newbie to bourbon. I DID read through the stickies, etc., so if I missed something or broke a rule here, I apologize. I plan to drink this bottle, and was just curious about the age of it, since I don't normally drink stuff that is out of production. I've browsed this forum for a while (prior to joining) but have never posted because I was afraid I might get a reply like this. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Good afternoon bontrager, welcome aboard. Your purchase was bottled after metric bottles were phased in during the early 1980s but that's all I can tell from the label unless you can post a larger picture.

For your very first post on this forum, your question without an introduction can be a little off-putting as we SB.com gets a lot of these "types" of requests (from "housewives" asking for where they can score Pappy's to "Tadas Auk"'s asking where they can easily hunt for dusties).

I can understand why someone might interpret my post that way, but seriously, I was just asking a simple question hoping to get a simple answer. I know the PVW game and certainly don't need to play it when my stock starts to run low. I regularly post on another board where some people complain that too many people ask "basic" questions there. They recommend SB as a place to get questions answered. As a long time lurker I decided to do just that.

Is there a tax stamp on that? And if there is, is it real?

As Squire pointed out its a early to mid 80's due to the "liter" right there on the front. Its obviously post 1982 (discontinuation of the BIB stamp rules) or you wouldnt be asking, If the tax stamp is on it and it says "TAX PAID" on the bottom left of the stamp then its pre July 1 1985, thats when they discontinued all Federal Tax stamps, as there is no saftey seal on the cap its for likley pre 1989.

I talked to few other sources who said it was bottled in 1986. Has DSP KY 16 on the front and the UPC starts with 88508. Tax stamp is intact, but no date. Thanks again for all the input, greatly appreciated. Although I have over 100 bottles of rare juice in my collection, this is my first dusty, so I'm much less familiar with knowing what's what.

There is most likely a bottle date on the bottom, since you threw out 1986 there probably is an 86 on the bottom. That would be the date the bottle was made so that will give you a good approximate date of when it was bottled. The most important information is that it is DSP-16 which makes it Stitzel Weller Old Fitz .

I know the search functionality can be a bit intimidating when you're new. I was in your place not too long ago and often times felt overwhelmed with the incredible amount of information contained in the threads here. With that said, I found google search to be very user friendly and allowed me to specifically search SB with any number of keywords and search commands. What you won't find are thread titles or summary threads that neatly package all of the information one ever needs to know. I find that the best information is often contained in the hilarious banter and single line comparisons that are layered into much longer threads. When taken as a single post, they may seem cryptic and often not applicable. However, when you take that same post in the context of the larger living thread, you start to get the picture and you see that one bottle may elicit knowledge, history, and fond memories from dozens of people. Spend a nice Saturday morning with a good cup of coffee (or pour of OF if that's your style) and really invest some time in searching the forums. I promise you will find everything you need to know and then some buried within. Just make sure to set a time limit because an hour quickly turns to four.

For what its worth, and compared to others in this community its probably not worth much, I took a look at a number of OF BiBs I have in my cabinet. Most of mine are late 80's with a single liter from '92. Since that has a tamper cap it really doesn't count. The 'tax stamped' bottles I have are all from 87-90 and have a green fake tax strip.

I've seen that pic before too, but I can tell you that the new member who started this thread didn't post it in the other place where we've all seen it. He's just someone who is looking for some info on a bottle.

It's already been covered, but it wasn't a good decision to make this your first post. As you can see, people are still suspicious of your motives.
