portwood
We also didn't have cell phones or the internet.I wish I could travel back in time to when this pour was ordinary, it is positively an incredible pourAs squire implies, careful what you wish for.It seems that the harder something is to acquire, and the more expensive it is, the better it tastes. The flip-side is that something that is bargain priced and sits on the shelves can't be any good. It takes b*lls to admit that something you hunted down for ages and shelled out the equivalent of a mortgage payment turned out to be a disappointment. It takes experience to admit that the everyday pour is as good/or better than the highly sought after flavour of the day. Also, the more limited one's experience the more the next sample is the "best I ever had"... WAINWRIGHT
I just know what I like and the Cabin Still falls right into my wheel house... Most 6-10 yr 86-100 proof dusty bourbon hits the spot for me... The 90 proof Cabin Still just happened to be particularly good.. My wife and I tried 5 Van Winkle era Old Fitzs and that Cabin Still blind and the CS was by far the best pour.Bobby Cox brought a Cabin Still to the Gazebo this spring that was just an incredible pour I wish I knew the exact era of which it was produced, out of the many things offered on the table it was truly one of the most memorable for sure.I have tried quite a few dusties thanks to a great many of members and that CS is one of the best I've ever had, looking forward to the KBF and what surprises it may bring to the table.....pun intended.
jakew
The last few nights I've been drinking some Larceny to try and kill this bottle so I can make some more room. I wasn't a big fan at first but it's been sitting on the shelf a few months and opened up quite nicely. The honey and corn notes really show much more after being open a while. brettckeen
A 1974 Bottling of Beams Choice 8yr. Tasty, definitely still beam, I'd describe it like a honey barrel of knob but 86 proof.

squire
Of course the only difference between Cabin Still and Old Fitzgerald is proof and age. During the last years of Stitzel-Weller when Bourbon sales were slowing down and whisky stocks accumulating the difference between the two was mostly proof. AGarrison
Opened my EC 12 single barrel last night. This is absolutely my current favorite. For me it has some complex flavors and overall just tastes great! McScrooges bought a barrel and I'm definitely going to pick up a few more bottles this week. A home run whiskey.btw: Portwood's comment is right on target for me as my experience is very limited. Edited August 7, 2013 by AGarrison
squire
Had some Barton on the rocks with lunch, I find Barton makes a good transition from the forenoon drinking hours to the afternoon drinking hours.

GaryT
Started with a WFE 11yr from Toddys before moving onto what I call a "Snickers", which is 2 parts peanut/peanut butter infused OFS with 1 part cacoa nib infused OFS. Chocolate + peanut butter + rye bourbon = awesomeness! (Joe - if Snickers sees this post, please explain the name is a coincidence )

Tucker
I'm enjoying a comparison between two Four Roses private selection single barrels, OBSQ and OESQ, one a group purchase and the other from a local store. Same age, selected the same month from the north side of the same warehouse. Both wonderful but with not-so-subtle differences. Tonight I'm favoring the lower rye recipe, which has a silky mouth-feel and buttery flavors. It seems to let the effect of the yeast show through more than the B recipe. Tomorrow might be different. Something to look forward to while I'm sitting at my desk preparing for an operations audit. Edited August 8, 2013 by Tucker

Going to drown the sorrows starting with an EC12.Don't drown your sorrows, begin the good times with EC12. It will all get better starting with your mood. Sometimes bourbon helps clears your thoughts. Seriously though, I hope everything is ok.

Yeti
Thanks bud! I'm being more than a little melodramatic. I'm a photographer/videographer and I deal in massive amounts of data. Recently my backup drive went down and I have a replacement en route...but now my primary is acting strange. Just crossing my fingers until I can get everything transferred over. On the other hand, I've been wanting to work a little less this week. Time to grab a barrel proof something and toast to that
